Sony Vaio CP1 digital photo frame

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Sony’s got its fingers dipped into the whole gamut of consumer electronics, and has just unveiled the wireless Vaio CP1 Wi-Fi photo frame that aims to make it a snap to share your favorite digital moments with family and friends, in addition to receiving news while streaming Internet radio in real time. This is clearly a step above other regular digital photo frames that does nothing but play a slideshow in a loop, while others are able to play MP3 tunes as well, but the Sony Vaio CP1 certainly goes one up on those departments with its built-in wireless connectivity.

Sony’s new quartet of personal navigation devices

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Who’d know that Sony would actually delve into the world of GPS navigation as well? I thought that the consumer electronics giant were pretty happy with their line up of flat TVs, high definition gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, but a Personal Navigation Device (PND)? Word has it that Sony recently announced four new PNDs under the model numbers NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44. In addition to helping you get around, these PNDs will include more brand icons, search functionality as well as photo viewing features so that you won’t get too bored while locating where’s the next rest room while you’re on the freeway.

SanDisk SD WORM Card

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Worms aren’t exactly positive stuff when it comes to the world of computing, but SanDisk has decided to name its latest SD card as the SD WORM card. The main reason behind the acronym? WORM stands for Write Once Read Many, and will target professional uses including police investigations, court testimony, electronic voting and other applications where it is imperative that data files must be protected from alteration or deletion at all costs. After all, it is much easier to modify analog recording media such as film and audio tape (which are going the way of the dodo by the way, if they haven’t yet done so already), leading to a rise in demand for a suitable solution where digital devices are concerned. Unfortunately, standard rewritable memory cards do not live up to legal requirements to prevent data tampering, hence the need for the SanDisk SD WORM card.

TransferJet Consortium to make interconnectivity a snap

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Let’s face the cold, hard facts. Transferring data between one device and another can be quite the headache especially when you have different options such as USB and FireWire (for those living in a wired world) while the wireless environment relies on infra red, radio frequencies and Bluetooth technology to get the job done. There is a new consortium that is being formed by many notable names in the world of consumer electronics so that a specification can be developed to help products interconnect with one another seamlessly. This new technology has been dubbed “TransferJet”, and it will be able to cater for rapid transfer of high resolution video, music and images when released to the masses. Check out the list of TransferJet consortium members right after the jump for a better idea on who’s who.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 Digital Camera

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I’ve been looking into a lot of digital cameras, such as the Casio EX-Z9. Today, it is Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4. This camera is similar in design to the aforementioned EX-Z9, and has an equal number of pixels (8.1, to be exact).

I might as well get the other specs out of the way. The lens of the camera is a 28mm, and it has a 10x Optical Zoom. The LCD menu screen is at 2.5 inches, and allows the user to access all the options.

Eye-Fi expands into Geotagging

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Photographers on the go are probably familiar with Eye-Fi, which incorporates wireless connectivity into its flash-based SD memory cards. The 2GB cards turn just about any SD capable digital camera or other electronic into a wireless hub for transmitting data wirelessly. Well, not being willing to settle just for that, Eye-Fi is expanding its card roles into Geo Tagging and giving users the capability of automatically uploading photos from more than 10,000 hotspots while away from home or from their home wireless network.

ECTACO releases jetBook

Monday, March 24th, 2008

jetbook.jpgECTACO, a New York-based electronics company has just released the jetBook device, ushering reading into the 21st century. I don’t think that such a device will replace entire libraries at homes across America anytime soon, but ECTACO is pretty optimistic about their chances, touting the jetBook to “kiss your old-fashioned, dusty library goodbye and say hello to the jetBook - the clean, smart, eco-friendly way to read. Get ready to have more space on your shelves at home, in your luggage when you travel, and on your bedside table too.” What do you think? More details from the press release are available after the jump.
