Xiaomi launches Mi 5 smartphone

xiaomi-mi5While smartphone companies will definitely make the most of their money from the entry level and mid-range handsets simply because they are far more affordable, and hence, generate a whole lot more sales volume, each company should also have a flagship device simply for bragging rights as well as to show off their technological prowess to the masses. If you have been following what Xiaomi has to offer for quite some time already, you would know that they have pretty decent mid-range devices like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and this time around at Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Xiaomi has launched its flagship Mi 5.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 happens to be a showcase of technological breakthroughs, where it will run on the speedy new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor to boot. This work of art will be accompanied by up to 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal memory, carrying a starting price of RMB1,999 ($305) to make it a very, very decent flagship device that does not break the bank. Expect the Xiaomi Mi 5 to go on sale starting March 1 on and Mi Home outlets in China, before it makes its way to other selected global markets some time down the road.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun shared, “Mi 5 is truly all you ever imagined, and more. Our latest flagship has been in the making for 19 months, and it’s the most beautiful device we have unveiled so far. With several tech breakthroughs built into Mi 5, it is insanely fast. I am extremely excited to start 2016 on such a strong note, and I’m really looking forward to unveiling even more amazing products in the year to come.”

It has a weight of just 129g and a thickness of only 7.25mm, making it light beyond imagination. There is a large high-density 3000mAh battery and a front fingerprint sensor, while sporting 4G LTE support, a 16MP camera on the back with a 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), full NFC functionality, and Quick Charge 3.0 that juices it up to 90% in just one hour. Any takers?
