TomTom GO 2405 TM and GO 2505 TM announced

TomTom is synonymous with GPS navigation systems of the highest quality, so it is no surprise to see the company roll out yet another two models for the masses to help them arrive at their destination safe and sound in the fastest time possible. The latest generation of navigation devices would come in the form of the TomTom GO 2405 TM and GO 2505 TM, where they are touted to deliver a “powerful navigation experience with faster routing, an enhanced software platform, and a new look and feel”. Let us delve into the nitty gritty of both devices in the extended post.

TomTom intends to offer drivers a world-class navigation experience, and this vision has led the company to develop a patented, high-speed algorithm which makes an allowance for instant route planning. Both the GO 2405 TM and GO 2505 TM will utilize this innovative technology, where they will go about conducting continuous routing. The regular monitoring of traffic information will lead these models to recommend the best current route to drivers.

Apart from that, both the GO 2405 TM and GO 2505 TM are the first TomTom devices that come with a new, enhanced user interface. Thanks to a more-intuitive software, users will be able to route to any destination with but a few taps. Not only that, drivers will experience seamless routing with voice recognition navigation commands.

Thanks to a capacitive touch screen technology and a brighter display, you can also navigate through menu screens with just a swipe of the finger and can pinch and zoom for easy map viewing. Using its new click and lock magnetic mount, you can dock either device in a jiffy with but one hand. Among the features found in both models include :-

  • Instant and continuous routing
  • Crisp, sharp graphics and intuitive user menus
  • Pinch-to-zoom and swipe from screen-to-screen using gestures
  • Bluetooth hands free calling to maximize safety
  • Voice recognition to operate the device with verbal commands
  • A click & lock mount to keep the device securely mounted while driving
  • Expanded driving view on 4.3” (GO 2405 TM) or 5” (GO 2505 TM) glass touch screens
  • Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates
  • Announces Street Names
  • Advanced Lane Guidance

Both models will be available Stateside from the middle of next year onwards, with prices starting from $299.

  1. I have a few questions about TomTom’s new Go 2405TM & 2505TM. I noticed that both are limited to 4GB of internal memory with no SD or micro SD card slot for expandable memory. What happends when you update the maps? Won’t the units eventually run out of memory? Map updates will require more memory in the future. Are the lifetime map updates deemed useless up to a certain point once the memory gets used up completely?

What if I want to add an additional map; such as Europe? Do I have to temporarily remove an existing map to install a map of Europe? What if the map of Europe is a larger map than the map I removed temporarily?

Does anyone out there know the answers to these questions?

  2. thats how they play the game Shaun, they limit the space, so that one day you’ll run out of memory to add more detailed and updated map, so that you will run out and buy another newly announced unit. In other words, they don’t want you to live with this GPS forever. They used to make money out of Map updates before, and its hard for them to give you lifetime map updates, as long as you live. The lifetime they say is, the life of 4GB memory is enough for a usual new map version. anyways. They want your money every few years, and this is how to do it.

  3. I think I will go with the Garmin Nuvi 3790LMT. Garmin doesn’t play those memory games. They put micro SD memory slots in their units for expandable memory.

  4. Tom Tom is still a better product than Garmin. When the TT maps are too large to fit on the 2GB models without SD slot, it would be time to get a more current updated GPS anyway.

  5. There is free new maps with these units evry quarter. New maps over write the old ones !
There is more than enough space.
Also they get free traffic for the life of the unit !
My issues are that most freatures are not ready yet to update ! This is very irritating but I have had 4 previously and have had no problems like this before.
The units are beautiful but they put them on the market prematurely !
