If you live in an area with lots of snow, then you know there is some preparation that has to be done to keep your home, cars, and family safe. Salting the driveway and sidewalk prevents slips and falls as well as letting your car get to the road more easily, running water during the night prevents the pipes from freezing, and getting snow off of your roof prevents damage to your ceiling, gutters, and downspouts. They’re tedious tasks, but not doing them could lead to some costly repairs.
We recently looked at the Avalanche Roof Rake, which will remove most of the snow from your roof to prevent an ice dam from forming. If you’d rather deal with the gutters, downspouts and roof in one go without having to clear off snow on a regular basis, you could get this Roof Snow De-Icing Kit. This consists of a 20, 80, 120, 160, or 200′ cable that you clip onto your roof, which will melt freshly fallen snow and whisk it out the spout before it has a chance to become ice.
Installation would take a couple of hours depending on the size of your home, but that would have you covered for the entirety of winter. It is CSA certified, UL listed, gives you 5 watts per foot, and comes with a 3-wire grounded plug and 6′ power cable. This setup comes with plenty of clips to keep your cables in place, and will cost you anywhere from $27-99.
