Can science help you scoop your ice cream?

Scoop That 2

Who doesn’t love ice cream? There are so many flavors and combinations to choose from, it’s hard to think that there isn’t something out there for everyone. The hardest part, quite literally, is when you’ve just pulled the ice cream from the fridge and want to scoop it immediately, but can’t because it’s almost rock solid. You can stick it in the microwave for a few seconds, or run the scoop under some warm water, but it’s still going to be a bit of a challenge getting everything just right without it turning into soup.

If you’d rather use a little science to make this task easier, then a thermo-ring heated scoop with a non-stick bowl can help with that. The ScoopThat! II uses a transfer of heat from the biodegradable liquid in the handle, and uses a thermal ring along the top edge of the scooping bowl. This means you can glide into the ice cream regardless of how cold it is, and then put it in your bowl without it sticking to the inside thanks to the non-stick scoop.

It’s made of a food-grade aluminum alloy and polypropylene, and will cost you $24.95. Since this is merely a transfer of heat, you don’t need to worry about replacing batteries or charging anything if your sweet tooth acts up. This is a bit over-the-top for getting a perfect scoop of ice cream, but if eating this particular treat is a regular occurrence in your household it could be worth the money.
