When it comes to the world’s most famous astromech droid, none out there will be able to hold a candle to R2-D2. This little astromech droid that could has had experienced daring escapes in the past, and not only that, seen the rise of the Galactic Empire and Emperor Palpatine’s ascension to the throne, in addition to its fall alongside the Return of the Jedi, and then some. Hence, there really isn’t any way for R2-D2 to be completely milked commercially, as his appeal is definitely far reaching – more than the Emperor’s grip over the galaxy at the height of his powers. There has been interactive R2-D2 units in the past, but this time around, we are looking at the $199.99 R2-D2 Interactive Astromech Droid.
Hailing straight from Industrial Automaton would be a scaled down version of R2-D2 of Star Wars fame. He is more than ready to obey your every single voice command – at least those that he has been programmed to recognized, that is. Similar to the larger sized version of R2-D2, this smaller version is able to flicker its lights and rotate its domed head accordingly as and when required – without a dwarf operating underneath it. Capable of responding to more than 40 voice commands, this officially licensed Star Wars astromech droid will feature a removable sensorscope, an illuminating light beam, sound, heat, and sonar processing and navigational systems, an adaptable mood status indicator, a rotating dome and working wheels. It will run on a quartet of AA and an equal number of D batteries – so I would strongly suggest getting rechargeable batteries for the long run.
