Holograms Coming to the Toy Deparment

What was your first impression when you saw the Princess Leia hologram in Star Wars? Seemed pretty crazy at the time. How in the world (errr galaxy far far away) did they get a 3D video to be played from a droid? It does not seem quite as crazy 35 years later. Hologram technology (a.k.a. holography) currently gets used in security (currency, drivers licenses), art, data storage and many other areas. Now it is even involved in games. Yes, games!

John Adams, experienced UK toy supplier, recently unveiled a hologram “game” at the 2013 London Toy Fair. HolograFX is described as an ‘interactive entertainment show’. Download pre-recorded projection holograms through the HolograFX app. Images are then generated out of your smart phone. Yes, what R2D2 did in Star Wars your phone will be able to do with this revolutionary game. Details are still sketchy on what exactly the ‘game’ will consist of. It appears that some sort of set is available for you to utilize in solving the mysteries. Also, early indicators are that you will somehow be able to project your own image into a hologram. See the video above for a demo. HolograFX launches in the US and UK later this year and no price has been announced. Whatever the price may be it will probably be cheaper than making your own R2D2 to project holograms though.
