Haier readies R2-D2 Fridge for CES 2016 debut

r2-d2-fridgeCES 2016 is barely a month away – and you can be sure that it will be another platform where brand new devices and inventions will be shown off to the masses, ushering in totally new technologies as well as the advances made over the past year which is sure to wow whoever is in attendance. Haier knows that they must strike while the iron is hot, which is why they are currently preparing the R2-D2 Moving Refrigerator that will debut at CES 2016.

Yes, we have seen attempts at a R2-D2 Fridge in the past, but this one blows the rest out of the proverbial water for sure. After all, this is not a micro fridge as in the past, and even better yet, it can move about, now how about that for an extra touch of realism? The R2-D2 Moving Refrigerator will be remote controlled and it comes built with authentic light and sound effects that remain faithful to the world of the Star Wars movies. Since it is in essence, a refrigerator as opposed to being a full fledged astromech droid, it will be able to ensure that your favorite cans and bottles of drinks remain chilled at all times, at the same time having the freedom of autonomy to move in any direction. Not only that, it is not Princess Leia’s last hope, as it also boasts of a fully functional built-in projector that makes it perfect for viewing parties.

While officially known as the R2-D2 Moving Refrigerator, it will carry a far less glamorous ASR-RD6E(W) model number, and tips the scales at a rather hefty 55kg. The fridge capacity stands at approximately 6L – which should be enough for half a dozen 350ml cans, and it has a refrigeration temperature of 7±3℃ thereabouts at room temperature of 25℃. The internal battery should be able to provide around 2 hours of movement on full charge, and it sports a maximum self-propelling speed of 1 km/h. The projector has a brightness of 32 lumens, a contrast ratio of 80,000:1, an aspect ratio of 16:9, and delivers video in 720p HD quality.
