Formlabs has come up with what they deem to be the most advanced 3D printer for the desktop in the market as at press time, where it would be pretty difficult to dispute that, taking into consideration how there are not that many choices to pick from in the first place anyway. Having said that, Formlabs is also a 3D printing pioneer, and with the launch of Form 2, this second generation high-resolution, desktop stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer will be able to bring with it bigger prints, smarter components, connected capabilities, and an intuitive printing experience to professionals, although enthusiasts might be curious enough to give it a try.
With the Form 2 from Formlabs, it is said to raise the industry standard for reliable prints, delivering sophisticated technology in an intuitive interface, and at the same time, to introduce new features that target team collaboration, simpler workflows and time savings. Some of the highlights of the Form 2 will include the ability to deliver larger sized prints that are more than 40% bigger build volume compared to its predecessor, the Form 1+. In addition, there is a more powerful laser that is rated to be 50% more powerful laser, and this will no doubt result in better print resolution.
There is also a new print process in tow, where this new sliding peel mechanism, wiper and heated resin tank will work in tandem with one another in order to make it possible to print large, solid parts with intricate details. As for the automated resin system, these new resin cartridges will automatically refill the resin tank during the printing process.
Formlabs’ PreForm Software has also been updated, ensuring that 1-click print will help prepare prints and simplify the printing process. The Form 2 is also future forward, as it delivers wireless printing via Wi-Fi to the table, with the ability to create custom notifications and mobile alerts. Those who are interested will be able to pick up the Form 2 for $3,499 a pop, where it includes Formlabs’ PreForm software, one litre of resin for printing and a finish kit for post-processing the parts.
