New Features for Google Voice

google-voice-logoIn another attempt by Google to make certain every user can go to one spot for all their mobile and Internet stuff, Google Voice just unveiled two new features.

The first is the ability to have your SMS messages forward to your email. I actually have this feature on my Spinvox account, but the less I can look at my mobile for messages, the better.

The second is the ability to to make your voicemail messages play on Gmail. So now your text and audio recordings will be accessible by computer. See instructions after the jump.

Here is how to set up the first new feature:

Login to your Google Voice account and click on the Settings link in the upper right hand corner. Once there, go to Voicemail & SMS, then check the box next to SMS Forwarding.

How to set up the second feature:

Login to your Gmail account and go to Settings. Once there look for Labs. Go ahead and click on that and then scroll down the list of available lab features until you see Google Voice player in mail. From there, go ahead and click Enable, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Save Changes button.

Hopefully users will appreciate looking at just one screen, not a mobile phone and computer for their messages. That goes without saying, really.
