EDAG Light Cocoon is a brilliant conceptual take on a car

edag-light-cocoonNot all vehicles are created equal – there is such a thing known as supercars, whose performance are legendary and would leave just about everyone else in its wake if the throttle is opened to the maximum and one steps on the gas pedal all the way down. Having said that, how about taking a different look at the car, with the EDAG Light Cocoon being one of them? The Light Cocoon is touted to be the ultimate in lightweight construction where vehicles are concerned, and it is set to premiere at the Geneva Motor Show next year – carrying a very important capability to boot, which is to sport a backlight that makes the entire ride look as though it has just driven off from a Tron-like movie set.

Being more than just a concept study of a compact, dynamic sports car, the Light Cocoon will also hopefully, pave the way for future lightweight construction in vehicles where this complete, bionically optimized vehicle structure would merge with a weatherproof textile outer skin panel. The entire shebang ushers in a new dimension for lightweight construction and automobile aesthetics, where the backlight technology involved would illuminate the skeleton-like, organic structure, hence making this ride all the more impressive to anyone who lays their eyes on it.

EDAG’s head designer, Johannes Barckmann, shared, “We are pursuing the vision of sustainability – as demonstrated by nature: lightweight, efficient, and without any waste. The result: the ‘EDAG Light Cocoon’ presents a stable, branch-like load bearing structure from the 3D printer, which only uses material where it is absolutely necessary.”

It will grant you a whole lot more mileage with whoever you come into contact with while driving this, far more than what the Transparent Canoe is capable of offering. This is definitely one concept that I would love to see become reality.
