Autowit 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter Review

Having a dead car battery is an inconvenience that often happens unannounced and without any prior warning signs. As with Murphy’s Law, this tends to happen during the most inopportune of moments: perhaps right before that big meeting, an important dinner date, or simply when you are in a rush for an appointment. The whole hassle of calling a tow truck not to mention the high cost attached in doing so can be painful to your bank account, while flagging a Good Samaritan down to help you out with a pair of jumper cables is not always guaranteed to happen. Since prevention is always better than cure, why not make sure you are always prepared with Autowit’s 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter?

 Design

The Autowit 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter is sleek and small enough that it does not intrude on your vehicle’s personal space, no matter how compact your ride is. I can safely say that everything can be stowed into your glove compartment with some space to spare, although I believe that many people would prefer to store it in the boot. An unorthodox method would be to stash it underneath your seat, but it might end up being dirtier than you would like it to be in the long run.

The package comes with the Starter itself, a charger and a 12V adapter. This makes it easy and convenient to use it no matter where you are without having to hunt high and low for an available power outlet. Even the user manual itself is nothing but a small sheet of paper, and the instructions are easy to understand. That is a huge plus in my book, although simplifying it to Ikea-standard drawings might be asking for a bit too much from Autowit.

There are indicators on the Starter as well as Charger which are clearly legible and easy to understand, making set up and usage virtually dummy-proof.

Convenience at your fingertips

The Starter needs to be pre-charged before it is used to jump start a vehicle, and thankfully under Standard Mode, even a weak car battery is able to pre-charge the Starter. This should apply to most cases, and in the event where the car battery is completely dead, you can always use a battery from another car, your powerbank via USB (20 to 40 minutes charging time), or from a different vehicle’s 12V socket (2 to 3 minutes charging time). Since most of us carry around our powerbanks as a necessity these days, I do not see any issue arising from a totally dead car battery that will leave you hapless in the middle of nowhere.

Using the Autowit 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter is as simple as hooking up the red and black clamps to the battery’s positive and negative poles respectively while the Charger is in its Off state. From there, you connect the start plug of the charge and start socket of the Starter. There will be a voltage indicator that will inform you of the existing car battery’s voltage through colors, and when it stops blinking with the “Start Mode” indicator turning on with a green light beside it, you will be able to start your engine.

Once your vehicle is up and running, it is a simple matter of turning off the Starter and let your engine run for a few minutes so that the battery gains enough charge to let you continue on to your intended destination. It really is that simple, and you would have saved yourself a handsome amount of money in the process with this $119 investment.

Final thoughts

I would positively recommend the Autowit 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter to anyone who owns a vehicle as you can never tell when your car battery is about to go bust, perhaps due to its lifespan or being careless and forgetting to turn off your headlights.

However, I must note that the protective rubber that covers the Charger’s cables would most probably deteriorate over the course of time if it is kept in your vehicle’s boot due to constant fluxes in temperature, as that was my experience with a regular pair of jumper cables many times over. Perhaps the higher quality of materials used here would help delay the deterioration process, but it is always wise to check the cables prior to connecting it to make sure that the protective rubber works as intended in order to avoid unnecessary injury. Best to walk on the side of caution and wear a pair of rubber gloves at the same time!

All in all, the Autowit 12V Batteryless Car Jump Starter comes across as highly recommended. Drive safe this holiday season, everyone!
