Acer Leap Ware Smartwatch announced

acer-leap-wareAcer jumps on board the smartwatch bandwagon with their latest release, the Acer Leap Ware. This is clearly an unprecedented venture by the PC-manufacturing company, as they have more or less dealt with desktops, laptops, 2-in-1 hybrid devices, and of course, tablets in recent years. To see them make the move into the smartwatch industry is certainly an interesting one, and the Acer Leap Ware was meant to impress right from the get go by boasting of an array of fitness-tracking sensors which will play nice with the Liquid Life app in order to motivate users to spend more time sweating it out as they adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Acer Leap Ware will boast of a modern, circular design which is the epitome of a feature-packed wearable. It will arrive loaded with features which promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle, and the integrated sensors offer feedback on heart rate, stamina, stress/fatigue, and exposure to ultraviolet rays. Now the last UV-exposure meter is certainly an interesting one, so you might want to add on an additional dollop of sunscreen in the process. Working in tandem with the Liquid Life app (available on Android and iOS), this app motivates users to exercise and encourages friendly competition among users thanks to the availability of rewards in the Liquid Life Market.

The polished stainless steel circular frame of the Leap Ware showcases a simple and minimalistic design, making it suitable for daily use. It is powered by a MediaTek MT2523 chipset and MT2511 bio-sensing chip, offering diverse fitness tracking features. Battery life stands at anywhere from three to five days depending on your usage pattern, so you need not fret if you are going to spend a day or two outdoors while wearing this bad boy. It will have Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ cover the face, offering superior scratch resistance and toughness, in addition to optical clarity and touch sensitivity. Expect the Acer Leap Ware to arrive in the US this July for $139 a pop.

This Acer looks interesting — the price is right and so too is the battery life — but I wonder how large this sucker is. One of the things Pebble did right was make smartwatches that don’t look like Flava Flav specials taking up most of your arm…
