Pavlovian Puppy Potty Trainer uses positive reinforcement

They say that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, so it’s important to instill good behaviors on your canine friend when they’re still a pup. One of the key things to make sure your dog learns early on is where to go to the bathroom. You can show them where to go, and swat them with a newspaper when they go somewhere that they’re not supposed to, but what about using positive reinforcement instead?

We’ve seen the Pavlovian Puppy Trainer before, but the creators have taken that device one step further, and created the Pavlovian Puppy Potty Trainer. This device is used in conjunction with a mat, which is where you want your pooch to use the bathroom. The mat has internal sensors that can detect moisture, which then send a signal to the base station. The base station then dispenses a small treat, to reward your furry friend for going to the bathroom in the right spot.

If you don’t want your dog to go to the bathroom inside at all, then this probably isn’t the gadget for you. However, if it is, then you can get your own for $100, which comes with a set of 10 pads. You won’t even need batteries, as they are included.

My recollection from Psychology 101 is the finding that behavior can be changed by reinforcement was Skinner’s research. Pavlov found conditioned reflexes not associated with reinforcements.
