Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale gets an update

Many of us have a bathroom scale stashed away somewhere (which would normally be in the bathroom itself, hence its name), but how many of us step on it with trepidation? We are often afraid of the numbers that greet us, and is one of the few instances where more is not necessarily better (unless you’re trying to bulk up after drinking all those protein shakes and pressing iron for hours on end at the gym). Well, time has passed, and the ordinary bathroom scale received minor upgrades which includes a digital display over the last decade, culminating in the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale. Well, it looks as though the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale has received an update, making it the first Wi-Fi-connected personal scale in the world that boasts integration with the Google Health service. In a nutshell, the Withings WiFi Body Scale is capable of providing updates to a user’s Google Health profile in real-time thanks to its integrated Wi-Fi connection.

Just what is Google Health? Launched in 2009, Google Health functions as an online personal health record which enables users to store, organize, and manage health information in a single, centralized location. With relevant information collected, it can then be shared with nominated individuals, where among them include (but are not limited to) doctors, care-givers and other family members. Sounds like the perfect online accountability tool for individuals who are striving for weight gain/loss which points toward their health status. Of course, there is always the chance of cheating by keying in the wrong numbers, but this is where the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale comes in handy. After all, the scale will automatically send updates of your weight and fat mass to your Google Health profile, ensuring there is no tampering in the process.

Apart from Google Health, the Withings Wi-Fi Body Scale currently is able to connect to a secure webpage, an iPhone (free app) and even via Twitter. Interested in picking up this super smart scale? It can be yours for $159.
