Samsung releases new external DVD writer

Samsung has just released a new external DVD writer in the form of the SE-S084B series. This is a tray-type (we’d very much prefer a slot-loading version as it looks way cooler, but that doesn’t help when it comes to keeping the dirt out) DVD writer that comes in seven color choices, and was specially designed to meet market demand for external DVDs. After all, with the burgeoning netbook market at this point in time, it makes sense to carry around an external DVD drive just in case there are some software you’d like to install that cnanot be downloaded. The SE-S084B series uses a solitary interconnect cable for both data transmission and power supply, and weighs less than 0.4kg for easy transportation. Not only that, it adopts a lead-free soldering technology to further reduce the carbon footprint while making it safer to dispose of a few years down the road. You can pick up the SE-S084B series in a 8X DVD+R and DVD-R writer, a 6X DVD+R and -R Dual Layer writer, and a 5X DVD-RAM writer models, with each of them retailing for $79.99.

How is this a “Coolest Gadget”?? I’ve had an external Sony DVD writer for a year and a half now.. and there are others older than that. 8x is slow btw. Sure it doesn’t weight much I guess.. so I guess that makes this old tech cool again?

I think the big deal with this one is the powered USB and looking at my AC power supply these days, less AC the better. I could actually use this for my Asus Eee PC 900HA although I will not be carrying around a drive.
