Wii Hero Pack let’s users slay the dragons

Hero Pack 1

Wii accessories are getting as common as the games people play. Some are even kicking up the imagination quotient a notch to give players not only a physical experience – such as for sports video games – but also a fantasy experience. Witness the Wii Hero Pack by Camy International.

Though some will enjoy the inevitable Zelda gaming fantasies, why stop there? Imagine pulling the sword of Gryffindor from the sorting hat in the first Harry Potter video game, or wielding the sword and shield a digital Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? Any video game that has a sword and shield and runs on Wii will enjoy the added dimension of hacking and slashing with hilt and blade, even if it’s much shorter and made of foam.

Wii gets rifle accessory now

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

shotgun-wii-blaster.jpg

Although the Wii looks as though it comes up short in the shooting game department, accessories for this console are anything but scarce. The latest would be this Rifle Gun Prop that makes your Wiimote and Nunchuck controllers more menacing than ever. The Wiimote is placed in front of the gun, while the Nunchuk fits in comfortable into the handle. We all know the Army is using the Wii for therapeutic treatment at this point in time, so is there a possibility for them to improve their aim? Nah, not until a game that involves real world shooting physics emerge. Still, if you want a higher degree of realism the next time you knock off your enemies from a distance, the Rifle Gun Prop retails for $16.58.

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

nyko-party-station.jpg

Most people would agree that playing the Wii is a social experience, and it is always fun to have some friends and family over to sweat it out with each other. What better way to hold a Wii party than to have the Nyko Party Station? This unique peripheral is meant to sit in the middle of your living room, featuring slots for 4 Wiimotes, a storage drawer for Wii accessories, a hand cooling fan, 4 numeric LED displays for group scores, 4 freezable cup holders, and get this - a center bowl with enough room to store chips and snacks for everyone. I guess having clean Wiimotes after snacking on some Doritos and Lays is out of the question. The Nyko Party Station retails for $24.99.

TVs now shielded from wayward Wii remotes

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

safety-shield.jpg

When the Nintendo Wii was first released, I noticed that plenty of people took up gaming enthusiastically, and this newfound enthusiasm can be seen in how they actually make use of the Wii remote. The level of immersion within the game is truly high even without the help of high definition graphics, and this is made possible thanks to the quality gameplay of certain Wii titles (perhaps Sony could take a page out of Nintendo’s book in this aspect). Unfortunately, there is a downside to this level of interest shown by gamers when they play the Wii, as the amount of strength the gamer actually puts in flailing the Wii remote around is rather surprising. That can be proven by the amount of TV sets that have been “stabbed” by a wayward, flying Wii remote due to overzealous swinging and (perhaps) a weak strap. This brilliant idea of a Safety Shield for the TV has long been overdue, and I could not be more delighted to see it ready for a mass commercial launch.

XBox QWERTY Controller

QWERTY Controller
This looks to be a little on the large size, as Microsoft have attempted to cram everything into on controller.

The Xbox has competition from the PS3 and Wii yet have these machines really made any dent into the Xbox sales? It is far to early for sure, yet Microsoft do appear to be consolidating the Xbox accessories and software market now, there is a rumor that they are looking to take over Take Two, the software house that creates the GTA series amongst others, is this a play to prevent future GTA games coming out on the PS3 format in favor of the Xbox?

Wii Boxing Glove

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

wii-sports-boxing-glove-instructions.jpg

When the Nintendo Wii was released, most people wondered how motion sensing would really work in a video game, and most of them had a copy of Wii Sports bundled to try. Fortunately for Nintendo, nearly everyone who picked up Wii Sports realized how well the controls worked, with boxing providing hours of entertainment on end (along with broken TVs due to flying Wii-motes, but that is another can of worms). I guess it was only a matter of time before gaming hardware manufacturers thought about making boxing gloves that actually fit in the Wii-mote for a more authentic, bone crunching experience.
