Schlage LiNK Starter Kit

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I realize that most people have their garage door openers conveniently clipped to their visor, but I don’t see why we can’t just open our doors with a cellular phone or other MID (Mobile Internet Device).

This is one of the uses for the Schlage LiNK, a system of locks and deadbolts that can be unlocked using a cellular phone or Internet connection. All a user needs to do is enter in a 4-digit access code on their device, and wireless Z-Wave technology unlocks and opens the pre-programmed doors.

Best Buy flies into vending machines

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Vending machine kiosks have been a staple of the Japanese electronics world for years. But as gadgets get cooler and cheaper, it appears that Best Buy is poised to begin flooding American airports with vending machine kiosks filled with last minute gadgetry to help stressed out travelers who seek to get their tech on or simply to replace the AC adapter they left in their hotel room.

Nokia E71 arrives in the US

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

The US version of the Nokia E71 is one highly anticipated handset, although it won’t command as strong a following as the recent iPhone 3G release. Still, this business centric cell phone is touted to be the slimmest QWERTY device on the market, measuring a mere 0.39″ in thickness. It is currently available to the general public via a range of consumer electronics, wireless and online retailers, and at the Nokia Flagship Stores in Chicago and New York. More of the E71 can be garnered if you read past the jump.

Unlocked Slider Phone

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Don’t ask me about the unconventional naming convention that this phone comes with, but like mom used to say - never judge a book by its cover. In this case, it would be unfair to diss a handset just because it is called an “Unlocked slider phone“. What’s more important are the specifications within, and without much further ado I bring you such information.

  • 900MHz/1800 MHz GSM
  • 2.2″ TFT LCD touch screen display at 320 x 240 resolution
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • VGA camera with video recording function
  • Voice recording capability
  • Compatible with popular audio, video and image formats
  • microSD memory card slot

The unlocked slider phone will retail for $146.88 each, but it gets cheaper if you decide to place a bulk order.

Turtle Wireless TW801 Watch Phone

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Turtle Wireless has a new watch phone for the masses - the TW801. This is a tri-bang GSM phone that is meant to be worn like a wristwatch, featuring many other capabilities of an ordinary handset such as :-

  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Camera function
  • Audio and video playback
  • Touch screen display
  • 512MB of internal memory
  • microSD memory card slot
  • 3 hours of talk time
  • 160 hours of standby time

There is no word on how much it will cost, but Turtle Wireless has plans to roll it out in Q3 and Q4 later this year. It will be sold as an unlocked phone. I personally don’t like watch phones since they’re a pain to read and compose text messages with.

Orb pries iPhones open

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

The iPhone is one stunning device to use, as you surely cannot argue against the sales numbers which doesn’t seem to abate even after being out in the market for approximately one year now? With news of an impending 3G iPhone ready to roll out this summer, the hype train is even going to pick up more speed. With Steve Jobs being the control freak that he is, it is no surprise the iPhone is a pretty locked down device and will take some jailbreaking before it can be unlocked, leaving many people being stuck in iTunes jail. Forget about being in iTunes jail - Orb Networks has a “Get out of jail free” card with their new OrbLive iPhone application. What does this do, exactly? Read on after the jump to find out more.

DigitalRise M600i GSM Phone Watch

Monday, March 24th, 2008

m600i.jpgAnother day, another GSM phone that comes in the form of a watch. This time, we have the M600i to tickle our fancy, being unlocked and ready to hit the airwaves in Australia and Europe.

This M600i watch mobile phone comes with features like a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera, touchscreen hand writing messaging, MP3/MP4 player, Video recording, Bluetooth connectivity, and an Internet browser. Its support of extensible microSD memory cards makes it extremely attractive for your next phone choice. This Dual band 900/1800MHZ mobile phone can be used for worldwide except North America. Call your cell phone service provider to confirm.

It retails for AU$340, and you ought to use this with a Bluetooth headset of some sort since you would look (and sound) rather daft, carrying out a conversation where everyone else around you will be able to hear.
