Sony’s new quartet of personal navigation devices

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Who’d know that Sony would actually delve into the world of GPS navigation as well? I thought that the consumer electronics giant were pretty happy with their line up of flat TVs, high definition gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, but a Personal Navigation Device (PND)? Word has it that Sony recently announced four new PNDs under the model numbers NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44. In addition to helping you get around, these PNDs will include more brand icons, search functionality as well as photo viewing features so that you won’t get too bored while locating where’s the next rest room while you’re on the freeway.

Reigncom Dicple D30J multimedia electronic dictionary

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Electronic dictionaries are huge selling pieces of consumer electronics in Japan and Korea, which explains the plethora of devices that are churned out pretty often, coming in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The latest would be the Reigncom Dicple D30J multimedia electronic dictionary that specializes in Japanese content for the Korean market. It looks pretty much like a netbook - keyboard and all, but it also boasts pen-based writing recognition for folks to input both Chinese and Japanese characters in a snap. Features include 78 different kinds of dictionaries, a 4.3″ LCD display, SRS WOW HD speakers, 30 fps video playback, T-DMB, an integrated FM radio and a microSD memory card slot. You ought to be able to pick up this 2GB mode for a shade under $300 after conversion.

EasyChair WorkStation keeps you entertained on sick days

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Although this EasyChair WorkStation does have plenty of uses for those who just don’t feel like getting out of bed in the morning, it also has practical uses as well.  Anyone that is chronically ill or injured badly enough will likely have days they can only lay in certain positions.  Which means either no getting out of bed, or at least laying in something a bit more comfortable.  While stuck in bed or on the couch, if you’re usually the busy type watching TV would probably get old at least after the first day if not sooner.

Sega Toys DigiPod

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

If you happen to fall under the category of a “Japanese Geek Teen”, then the Sega Toys DigiPod is just the thing for you. It comes with a 1.5″ LCD display housed within a body that measures 78mm x 57mm x 29mm, making it perfect to tote around in your pocket, secretly sharing all your most private photos with a trusted friend, away from the peering eyes of the world. Photos can be transferred using a mini USB connection located at the side of the DigiPod. At $30 a pop, I don’t really see the importance of such a device as most cell phones these days already come with a screen size larger than 1.5″ and do a pretty bang up job displaying photos captured via a high resolution digital camera.

The Aeryon Scout: For those God like camera angles

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Birds eye view

There’s a sweet scene in Star Wars: Clone Wars where Arc Troopers are assaulting a city. Not knowing where the bad droids are, the commander tosses up a floating ball-like camera platform and sends it out on a recon mission. The result is a birds eye view of every nook and cranny where an ambush could happen. A sweet idea that could have great uses in today’s techno efficient military, police surveillance, or even search and rescue. That’s a similar idea behind the Aeryon Scout, fly in the air and give a real time birds eye view via live wireless video feed.

Day & Night Watch only tells you if the sun is up

Day & Night Watch

How many times have you sat and pondered whether or not it was daylight outside? Unless you spend the better part of your days living underground, chances are that you don’t think about this very often. Sure, when you’re sitting in a cubicle after hours it may cross your mind, but is that enough to justify a watch that solely tells you whether the sun is up or down?
