As far as I can tell, the head mounted video viewers haven’t exactly made a killing in the consumer electronics market yet. The myvu put itself on prominent display at CES Las Vegas this year, and you can read about that on our Sister Site. The Vuzix iWear VR920 was also on display at CES, and it looks somewhat promising.

This next candidate in this growing head mounted video market is the i-Bean. This one is different from the other two aforementioned products because it is not goggles, but an attachment for regular sunglasses or regular glasses. All you have to do is suction cup them onto your usual eyewear.

The i-Bean says that it produces an image that is equivalent to a 21 inch screen from a distance of one meter away. It even has a built in TV tuner, but I’m not sure that it will work when the big HDTV changeover occurs.

Darkness not only removes light from the scene when you’re driving, it also takes out contrast, leaving a night driver with the bright spotlight cast by the car’s headlights, and any other place where light is cast by streetlights, a full moon, billboard lights, etc. It’s a light/dark world with no degree of shade or contrast. High-end sports watch maker Tag Heuer has recognized that the ability to see varying degrees of light and dark can add that contrast and have created a pair of Night Vision glasses to help drivers to see – even when no light is cast. Here’s how they work:

I remember the early days of gaming where graphics were far more important than sound, and as time progressed, this thing called sound cards took the world by storm. It was pure joy listening to the sounds of lasers from my X-Wing clearing off yet another TIE Fighter, and 8-bit audio evolved to 16-bit, 32-bit and eventually 64-bit sound. Now we have high end sound cards that made the cards of yesteryear look and sound absolutely pathetic. The level of gaming immersion increased even further with the introduction of multiplayer gaming, and with that, headsets took off in a rather big way. After all, you wouldn’t want all and sundry to hear where you are at or what you’re doing in the game, do you? Headsets soon grew to include microphones for team mates to communicate with one another, just like how one would do in real life warfare. We’ll take a look at the Razer Pirahna today and see how it performed.
