Star Trek Bottle Opener

Monday, June 30th, 2008

It is good to know that just like sex, drinking is a universal value. How else do you explain the Star Trek Experience bar located at Hilton Las Vegas? Not to mention numerous drinking holes found in the Star Wars universe, but we’re here to concentrate on the former series today with a unique bottle opener.

As well as its supreme practicality, the Starship Enterprise Bottle Opener serves as a constant tribute to the most iconic pretend spacecraft in televisual history. Better still it’s embossed with the legendary NCC-1701 registration, so you can be sure you’re opening your bottle of wallop with a Shatner-era vessel. And that’s just as well because judging by his, erm, interesting cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Captain Kirk is the only member of Starfleet who likes a drink. Boldly going where no bottle opener has gone before. Make it so!

Well, only true blue Trekkies need to pick this up, as I don’t see the rest of the drinking crowd willing to fork out £12.95 for a ‘mere’ bottle opener when their teeth double up as one just fine.

Video Game Screens Made From Lego Bricks

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Lego is no stranger to the world of video gaming. They have formed their own niche in the gaming market with their Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles. And while the look of Lego still remains intact in their games, we’ve never seen something quite like this.

A clever Flickr user by the name of skinny coder has put together a collection of video game screen renditions using nothing but Lego bricks and his imagination. His Lego creations include Duck Hunt (NES, pictured), Contra (NES), Castlevania (NES), Shadow of the Colossus (PS2), Mortal Kombat (Arcade), Excitebike (NES), Bionic Commando (NES), and Metal Gear (NES).

StarWars USB Ports

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

We have seen much Star Wars merchandise in the last three decades, some of it was cheaply made, and some has passed the test of time. So why not make Star Wars USB hubs?

Before you say “to get George Lucas more money”, let me tell you more about these particular Star Wars products. Not only will they give you some extra USB ports and give authentic Star Wars décor to your desk, but the R2D2 and Darth Vader models also come with some special features.

Hasbro and Tiger Electronics A.M.P.

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Can anyone tell me what is happening on Battlestar Galactica lately? It used to be that it was humans vs. Cylons, but now it’s like Cylons vs. Cylons, humans forming alliances with Cylons that look like humans, and some odd religious stuff thrown in. It almost makes me long for the original series, which was, at best, an obvious Star Wars knock-off.

Well, the war between the humans and Cylons just took an odd turn as Hasbro’s Tiger Electronics introduced the A.M.P., the Automated Music Personality. The A.M.P. has a sleek black finish and stands 29 inches tall with two perfectly balanced wheels like a Segway.

The A.M.P. is an apt acronym as a user can stick an MP3 Player on its back and watch the A.M.P. dance. Somehow, it can “express his personality through 49 LED lights and futuristic sound effects”. Speaking of sound, the A.M.P. has 12-watts of stereo sound that includes 2 tweeters, a mid-range speaker, plus a bass boost touch sensor.
