Nokia N79 joins the N Series party

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

We’ve taken a look at the Nokia N96 and the Nokia N85 yesterday, so let us shift our focus over to the Nokia N79 today. This will be the latest addition to the vaunted N Series range of cell phones that aims to bring together a perfect blend of intelligent, customizable design with the functionality of a multimedia computer. According to Juha Kokkonen, Director, Nokia N Series, “The Nokia N79 packs cutting-edge technology into a compact design - a characteristic of the iconic Nseries - that allows people to discover, create and share their passions with others. It has been designed for those who want a device that is as appealing as it is powerful and comes with interchangeable covers that have automatically matching screen themes. This balance of performance and style means that it is a powerful and defining step forward from the popular and very successful Nokia N72 and Nokia N73.”

A Treadmill Desk With Multi-Screen Displays

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

There’s no doubt about it. Treadmill desks are an awesome way to keep the internet surf flowing as your get your heart pumping. We’ve covered an assortment of treadmill desks over the years, but there is one feature which is lacking from each and every one of them. Where is our multi-screen support?

So many hardcore geeks these days are using upwards of three or more displays for their computing rig, yet when it’s time to jog on the treadmill for an hour, we’re forced to downgrade to a single monitor. What sort of quality of life is this? The JW Treadmill desk offers support for multiple displays as well as providing an ample amount of surface space for any knick-knacks or paperwork.

Zipit Wireless Messenger 2 now available

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

zipit-z21.jpgRemember the Zipit Wireless Messenger 2 that we covered back at the end of September, along with a reinforcement of the device earlier this month? Well, it is now available for purchase - and in time for the holiday season, to boot. For those who are still in the dark on what exactly is a Zipit, well it acts as a cure for those who just cannot live without their instant messaging programs (IMs such as AOL, Yahoo and MSN) no matter where they go. Zipit is compatible with virtually all major IM platforms, and best of all is it does not charge any fees, whether monthly, per message or otherwise. You can use the Zipit Z2 to hold multiple, concurrent conversations with friends without missing a beat.

One day to go, and here it is: iPhone vs. Nokia E70, Part I: The basics

Apple iPhone vs Nokia E70

In less than two days, at 18:00 local time, the oh-so-hyped iPhone will be available for sale across the US. Mr. Jobs has offered the final version of the device to several (Apple lovin’?) US journalists, so there’s already a plethora of reviews available.

This article will be based on the available iPhone reviews (it’s going to be quite a while until it comes to Europe) and on my personal experience with the Nokia E70. The E70 is already pretty old, almost unknown, and ugly. But what it offers is already way beyond the iPhone.

This will be a long article, which will directly compare the two devices, highlight each one’s strengths and weaknesses, and give some insight in the world of the Symbian operating system and the s60 interface.

US readers don’t despair, I will make as little reference as possible to the fact that Nokia’s smartphone has WCDMA connectivity while the iPhone is limited to EDGE. And I’m doing that just because the E70 that’s available in the States is also limited to EDGE.

Concept Mobile Phones

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

asus-aura-concept-sm.jpgApparently the latest trend to generate publicity around a brand is to launch futuristic, sometimes weird-looking product concepts. The mobile phone manufacturers are in fact investing heavily into concept models.

Asus recently announced its concept mobile phone called Aura. The device comes with a 3.9 inch LCD screen, a QWERTY keyboard, a 2 megapixel camera and microSD slots for memory expansion. The most amazing feature of this phone is its the slim frame and the fact that it supports GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth!

Jet-powered bicycle

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Take 56 seconds to have a look at this superb video of a jet-powered bicycle, coming right up…!

It’s obviously a home made contraption, and we guessed probably from the sort of jet engines used in making model aeroplanes. There was no bumf that came with the video, for instance and we had so many questions such as “How fast can the thing go, what’s its range etc.?”, but we did find a few details about the jets from Google.

The jets are likely manufactured by a US company Jet Cat, and cost the best part of $4,000 each for the largest model, the Titan. They run on kerosene fuel and rotate at speeds of up to 123,000 RPM.

Another important tip; the exhaust gases reach a temperature of 770°C, so make sure your friends stay well back when following you.

But there are so many other questions that come to mind, such as do you need a special licence to operate a jet powered bicycle, how much is the road tax, insurance…

The voices sound American, and I wonder if they’re breaking the law by even taking that thing out on the public roads, as it looks like they’re doing there.

Hats off to the wonderful Geeks are Sexy team, for another great scoop.

Office Live Logo

As users are wondering when is Microsoft Office Live Beta going to be released to public, and how much will it change the image people view Microsoft, who had been a software giant in terms of Windows Operating Systems and its well-known popular Office Suite (Microsoft Office). As there have been several demands from users all over the world, wanting and waiting to try out the latest beta innovation from Microsoft, well they have been very careful with this release, intending to target enterprise and professional users, rather than home users at first. The good news is, some beta testers have been selected to try out its latest creation, but the bad news is, not everyone who submitted for the request get theirs answered.

Microsoft Office Live Beta, currently in Beta Stage, is available in three versions - Microsoft Office Live Basics, Microsoft Office Live Collaboration and Microsoft Office Live Essentials.
