Camoria Gets Your Life On Camera

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I think we all know that people just want their lives on the Internet, and they will gladly paste their photos and videos on their MySpace and FaceBook pages without any regards to the consequences.

This is why the Camoria has been developed. The Camoria is an over-the-ear digital camera that is designed to put your life in the form of pictures. Of course, there is no way that you can get your own face in the shots, unless you stand in front of mirror.

Right now, the Camoria is a concept device by German designer Akbiyik Vokan. Information that I got about the Camoria is very sketchy, so I don’t know how much memory it has, or how long the battery will last.

Introducing The Trons: An Autonomous Robot Band

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

First, The Beatles took on America, launching a British Invasion of music. Then Led Zeppelin took the hard rock world by storm. Should we be expecting another kind of invasion anytime soon? Perhaps a Robotic Invasion? Could robots eventually take the place of modern musicians, and do a better job of writing hit tracks? What could this mean for the future of the music industry?

Allow us to introduce to you, The Trons! A fully autonomous robotic band. Watch out U2! The Trons are a New Zealand based robot band which does a pretty good job rocking the house all on their own. The video above shows The Trons performing their rocker “Sister Robot”. The robot musicians are even designed to resemble humanoid figures.

Jive, the Elderly’s Social Network

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Since I was born in 1971, I am of the X Generation. I learned to adapt to all that computers starting doing in the Internet boom of the mid-nineties. I am always amazed at how much Generation Y can do on social networks like Myspace and Facebook.

Here is a disturbing image for you: Fifty or sixty years from now, this Generation Y will be on their computers in the rest home, logged on to whatever social network will be popular by 2050.

I don’t think that I could ever get my 67-year-old mother on this tech, but I could always try with the Jive, a social network for the elderly.

The Jive interface is set up with a bunch of slots on the bottom, so a user can “plug into” their friends. As soon as the friend disc (which can actually have a picture of the person on it) is plugged in, it would be like entering someone’s MySpace or Facebook page.

Pacemaker Portable DJ System

Pacemaker Portable DJ System

For those of you who want to DJ, but cannot afford two turntables and a microphone, there is a digital handheld alternative: the Pacemaker.

I’m not talking about some internal electric monitor, but the Pacemaker Portable DJ System, which allows for “an extensive range of professional audio manipulation [which] features…limitless mixing between two independent channels”. In short, you can mix, play, and perform anywhere you want, and your mixed tunes will be saved to the 120 hard drive.

The Pacemaker is compatible with all types of digital music formats, and also features “dynamic beat detection, cue, crossfade and reverse, pitch change as well as bend, loop, effects, and EQ”. I’m not a DJ, so I don’t really know what all that really means. I’m sure that all the DJs out there probably think all those aforementioned features are “dope”, but that just shows what I know about DJ-ing.

The Pacemaker ships with a choice of a Mac or PC audio editor, and includes a USB port for computer interface. One of the most prominent features is Pacemaker’s online mix community that could be an audio MySpace/Facebook.

So if you want to be a DJ, and you’re looking for a place to start, you might want to purchase the Pacemaker for about €520.00.
