Just when you thought that Microsoft’s Zune is all but dead and buried, along comes the software giant and their special limited edition version of the Gears of War 2 Zune 120GB model. Microsoft has already begun to take in pre-orders for this limited edition device at both Amazon.com and Walmart.com, while those living in the Great White North can place their respective pre-orders from Amazon.ca, BestBuy.ca, FutureShop.ca and TheSource.ca. This 120GB device will retail for approximately $279.99 and will ship from November 7th onwards, leaving you plenty of time to wrap this up in the nicest manner possible before presenting it to your loved one as a Christmas present. Be forewarned though - anyone who receives this must be a Gears of War fan, own an Xbox 360 and does not mind owning the Zune (preferably not in possession of an iPod as well). Pretty tough criteria to fulfill, but hey – that’s life.

I’m surprised that nobody covered this yet - the Lenovo ThinkPad W700. To think of all the product placement and sponsorships at the summer Olympics, this one still slipped through our net - almost. Talk about turning lemons into Lemonade. The parents of 18-year-old Shaun Malone, placed a GPS tracking device into his car to make sure he was obeying traffic laws. The model they installed would email them if he ever went over the speed limit and they could check in real time to make sure he was where he said he was going to be. So, when Shaun was caught by a police radar going 62 in a 45 mph zone last summer, his parents were shocked because they had data to refute the claim by police that their teenager was speeding.

– With surveys suggesting the number one thing people want for Christmas once again being a computer, it makes good eco sense to think green. Dell Computer is, recently announcing an initiative to make Dell Computers more eco friendly. As the second largest computer maker in the industry, Dell is taking their leadership position very seriously and should be rewarded by those looking to buy a PC for the holidays. In addition to creating more energy efficient computers, Dell plans to also lean on their their suppliers to follow their lead. And if they don’t, Dell may levy penalties to motivate them. Although their pledge mostly relates to becoming carbon neutral in their manufacturing processes, it’s a start, and makes Dell the first major computer manufacturer to seek to become carbon neutral by next year.
