Microsoft helps save your time

Friday, April 11th, 2008

clearflow.jpgPerhaps after all this while grappling with Blue Screens of Death while using Microsoft products, the company’s conscience has finally been pricked as they decide to help you save time instead of waste it with the aforementioned problem by launching a software technology known as “Clearflow”. Not only does this software helps drivers with directions, it can also be used to avoid traffic jams so that you will be able to arrive home in time for dinner with the missus. The technology involved has been in the works for the better part of the last half decade, thanks to the efforts of AI researchers from Microsoft’s Research lab. Clearflow aims to alleviate traffic congestion by applying machine-learning techniques. When launched, Clearflow will support 72 cities in the US and is available via Microsoft’s maps.live.com service.

New iMac first look is lean and mean …

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

New iMac
Apple announced the new iMac today. It’s not as boxy or ugly as it’s predecessor, thankfully. Dumping the 17” screen in favor of 20 and 24” models, the iMac is made out of aluminum, glass and sports a very thin keyboard that comes in wired and Bluetooth versions, along with 2 stock 2 USB 2.0 ports built in. Under the hood? A 2.4GHz Core 2 Extreme processor with ATI’s Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card, 1 terabyte of storage space, 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.0, and 1GB of RAM (the new iMacs support up to 4GB RAM). (Catching my breath)

Using Norton ‘Anti-Virus’ on your PC? Enjoying the crashes, slow-downs, fake detections and escaping viruses?.. Do you own a Windows Mobile device and want the same pleasant experience on it too?.. Good news! In a few days you’ll have the privilege of paying $49.95 for the pure enjoyment of Norton on your mobile.

You’ll get a suite of antivirus, antispam, firewall and data encryption functions. The encryption will allow you to keep data secure, even if the smartphone is lost or stolen. An additional piece of software, which will of course be sold separately, which will allow you to securely connect to your corporate VPN.

*Rant* - Vista

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Vista UltimateJust to warn you in advance that there is a fair chance that this post will turn into something of a rant as I’m now into day 2 of life with Microsoft Vista and the grass is certainly not always greener.

First off this is totally my fault as I didn’t need to upgrade, I’ve been using XP for years and been pretty happy with it. But it’s coming up to the end of my tax year and anything I don’t spend I have to give 40% to the government to waste (that could easily be rant #2), so I thought this would be a good time to give Bill a bit more cash and upgrade to Vista Ultimate.

Blue screen of death t-shirt

Ok so this one’s not really a gadget, more of a “fashion accessory”, but I hope you’ll forgive us on this occassion and appreciate this fine blue screen of death t-shirt we found, appropriately enough, via Geeks are Sexy.

As I’m sure all of you owning a PC know, the blue screen of death (BSoD) appears during a Windows operating system failure. What we didn’t know is that there’s quite a cult surrounding the phenomenon….
