FCC posts image of Asus Eee PC S101

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

The FCC is only interested in whether a device deserves to be released or not, so they aren’t too big on keeping secrets. The latest “victim” of the FCC would be the Asus Eee PC S101, Unfortunately, juicy details that we geeks want (processor speed, hard drive capacity, screen size, the works) are unavailable from the FCC at this point in time, save for photos. This will be a high end Eee PC so do expect to fork out a figure that is way past the $500 mark. Many people lay claim to features the S101 will carry including a 10″ display, an Intel Atom processor, and a choice between a 32GB/64GB SSD, but all those remain to be confirmed as at press time.

Picotux 100 Desktop Computer

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Just when you think your Asus Eee Box is one of the smaller computers hanging around, along comes the Picotux 100 desktop computer to blow your mind away. Sure, it won’t be able to perform fantastic feats such as high-end gaming or heavy number crunching, but it does boast enough firepower to type adocument and possibly surf micro-sites on the Internet. Some of the specifications are as follows :-

  • 32-bit ARM 7 Netsilicon NS7520 processor (55MHz)
  • 2MB flash storage
  • 8 MB SDRAM
  • uClinux 2.4.27 Big Endian (native) operating system

This little computer measures a mere 35mm x 19mm x 19mm, good luck finding a case to go with it. I’d say a matchbox would do just fine.

Limited edition Asus Eee PC

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Asus’ Eee PC has taken the world by storm, and even though it comes in a wide range of pastel colors, I suppose there is always room for something more striking. Our friends in Korea have the benefit of getting their hands on a limited edition run of the Eee PC 1000H that comes in red, albeit with a white keyboard and some snowflake-like patterns on the front. I’m not too sure whether the pricing will have changed with a change in color, but rest assured the specifications ought to remain the same.

Asus Vit W1 wireless mouse

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I have no idea why you would want to keep track of your heart rate if all you’re doing is sitting idly by the computer. Seriously, how much faster can your heart beat if all you do is type furiously on the keyboard? I suppose this is interesting to see whether your pulse races whenever you check out NSFW images, or it might be interesting to see if you can remain calm whenever the stock markets plunge. Inside the Vit W1 mouse lies a pulse rate sensor that will send collected information to your computer wirelessly, where a pre-installed software on your computer will interpret whether you need medical attention or not by displaying a corresponding emoticon on the screen. The mouse is accompanied by five buttons, a small USB receiver, 1200dpi sensitivity and a maximum working range of 30 feet.

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Just in case you thought that the Asus Eee PC was one impressive tiny wonder, along comes Gigabyte and their diminutive M528 netbook. Measuring just 152mm x 80mm x 23mm, this small device manages to pack in full PC functionality in such a small form factor. It will be powered by the impressive Intel Atom 800MHz processor and aided by 512MB RAM, and despite the fact that it runs on Linux, it is also able to drop that and get Windows XP up and running without any problems. Power consumption works out to approximately 2.8W on average, which is always a good thing.
