Last summer, we reported that Spider-man 3 broke the record for the most successful opening weekend. I’ve just heard that this record has been broken by The Dark Knight, which is on the verge of becoming the best superhero movie ever.

I’m sure a lot of you saw it over the weekend. Some of you might have been greatly impressed by the Batpod, director Christopher Nolan’s take on the classic bat-cycle, without the sidecar for Robin. The Batpod was designed by Nathan Crowley, the same man who designed the Tumbler from the Batman Begins.

Despite what you see on television, the average police officer discharges their firearm once every five years. I can’t remember where I heard that statistic, but I hope it is still accurate. My point is that police officers generally use their guns as a last resort.

It’s no secret that the state of computer gaming graphics is getting more and more realistic all the time. The state of the art can easily be seen in the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3’s stunningly realistic situations, lighting shades, and characters who make the term virtual reality even seem archaic by today’s standards. And with more and more designers like Nintendo’s Wii looking to add feedback and faster reaction time, the state of the art is not only more realistic, it’s more immersive. So, when TN Games designed the 3rd Space Vest, which allows gamers to actually feel the impact of punches and shots, the next level of realism in computer simulations seems to have been achieved. It looks like a bullet proof vest, and that’s essentially the idea. To feel the impact, not suffer from it.

I tell you, scientists are a mad bunch. Who in their right mind would invent vehicles that move much faster than the speed of sound, or even this thing we call a keyboard that makes communication and documentation so much easier compared to the traditional pen and paper route? Well, them mad scientists are at it again, having recently discovered a novel method of levitating extremely tiny objects that could see a revolution come upon the design of micro machines. This new report claims that physicists are now able to manipulate the Casimir force (vastly different from the fictional Force found in the Star Wars universe) that under normal circumstances, causes objects to stick together via quantum force.

So if you’ve been reading here at all for a while, I’m a Ferrari and F1 fan. 

This weekend in Sonoma California there was the Ferrari Challenge, the series where they race 355s and also do runs with the FXX race series (they’re the Enzo in race shape,, amazing!).  There were also vintage races as well (separated by drum and disk brakes).

It was a great event and I finally got to see actual recent F1 cars in person and all the accompanying technology with them.

The really cool part is that the Piloti Corsa group was there(Ferrari’s in house group they send whenever someone with one of their old F1 cars goes out and drives).  It felt really cool to see a bunch of Italians (they were kind of stand-offish, I asked how the plane trip over was and got the “my english no good” from one of the engineers, so I didn’t push it) all in Ferrari Red (and their cool Puma white mechanics gloves, it was really cool. I don’t think they wear anything more than once, they were all so red and clean.)

to get to see all the gear that they use was awesome!  The lifts, the telemetry laptops, and all the air guns were awesome (there, gadgets, its an official post).

As we don’t get F1 out here on the west coast someday I’ll make it to Indy, Montreal, or Monaco, it was the next best thing. I can’t wait for next year!

This is the strangest looking elephant gun I’ve ever seen, an elephant sculpture made out of old guns.

The elephant made from guns is part of an art collection that has been created using disused weapons from the Cambodian civil war. There’s chairs, tables, animals and all sorts of stuff, very bizarre.
