Another Site Update

August 9th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Site News

Due to a few technical problems with the back-end of the site we’ve updated the software running the site, which touch wood seems to of resolved all problems but if you encounter any oddities please let me know.

We’ve also added a past searches page so that we can see what people are interested in finding, which I’m sure will reveal some interesting keywords.

Finally we’ve now got an Arabic translation service, like the other languages it’s fully automated which means it’s far from perfect but good enough to get the general gist.

We do have some exciting changes, competitions and additions planned for CG over the next few weeks, so watch this space :)

Party Popper Canon

August 9th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Party Canon

This is the grand-daddy of all party poppers, the party cannon. Instead of making a pathetic pop and releasing a few streamers, the party cannon goes with a whoosh and rockets out a massive payload of shredded paper.

Flexible USB Fan

August 8th, 2006 by Liam in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Flexible USB Fan
These days practically anything can be done with a USB port. There’s now no reason to get overheated at your desk with the Flexible USB Fan.

The fan is on a flexible cord which is plugged into the USB port. It is stiff enough to stand on its own so you can point it where you want. The blades are designed to be strong enough to give you a good, steady stream of cool air, however they are soft enough that even a child could grab them without getting hurt.

Phone Manager Plus

August 8th, 2006 by Liam in Home Gadgets

Phone Manager Plus
If you want to do a little bit of snooping or monitoring in your house with regards to calls being made or received, the Phone Manager Plus could be for you. The Phone Manager Plus keeps track of all the phone communication that goes on from your line.

I’m sure many people already do this with their caller ID, however caller ID only records incoming calls. The Phone Manager Plus records information from caller ID as well as outgoing call details.

Another thing it records is call duration and time of day. This lets you find out if someone in your house is making long calls while they should be doing something else and can also help explain an over-inflated phone bill at the end of the month ;).

Get Your Own Virtual Girlfriend (or Boyfriend)

August 8th, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, PC Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Virtual GirlfriendThis is like an adult version of Tamagotchi, the aim of the game is to bed your virtual partner (okay the aim is to keep him or her happy (and then get your cyber wicked way)).

Each device comes with 8 different potential mates, so if you get bored of one you can treat her mean in the hope of being dumped so that you can move on to your next conquest. Playing the game sounds pretty simple:

The more satisfied your virtual date becomes, the more points you collect and the longer the relationship lasts. Using the three control buttons you can select between gifts (anything from lingerie to deodorant), compliments (oblique or spectacularly blunt), places to go (the jewellers or to the bingo) or, if you’re feeling lucky, wild passion.

Available from Firebox (due to the risqué language this is not suitable for kids). Thanks to the biggest NY Giants football fan I know for the news.

Power Cop

August 8th, 2006 by Liam in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Home Automation

Power Cop
Do you have kids that waste too much time playing video games or other electronic time-wasters? If so the Power Cop could be perfect for you. The Power Cop is a programmable power block which allows you to set a maximum amount of usage an electrical device can be used for before it is automatically locked.

The electrical device is plugged into the Power Cop, and the Power Cop is then plugged into the wall. Once the device is plugged into the Power Cop it is locked in and can only be unplugged by one of the two included keys so there’s no way to get a few extra minutes except maybe with a sledgehammer ;).

The Fart Detector

August 8th, 2006 by Mike in Wacky Gadgets

Fart DetectorThere’s nothing worse than taking a breath of fresh air, and finding that it isn’t actually so fresh. You look around the room to find the person with that guilty look on their face, hoping to find the one who, yep, farted.

The Fart Detector won’t tell you who farted, but it will give you a warning so that you can hold your breath or leave the room.

It actually works. The Fart Detector will give off a “Warning! Fart detected!” Whooop! Whooop! when methane gas is detected in the air.

Get this for a prankster friend, or yourself, it’s only $35 and the batteries are included! Available from Cornells.

Flying Manta Ray Inflatable

August 7th, 2006 by Liam in Vehicle Gadgets

Flying Manta Ray Inflatable
It’s a lot of fun to be towed around in inflatable crafts by a boat, however wouldn’t you rather be flying as opposed to just being dragged on top of the boring water? With the Flying Manta Ray Inflatable you can do just that!

This inflatable floats just like any regular towable toy, however it features specially designed wings that allow you to soar above the surface of the water. The greatest thing about it is that it isn’t powered by anything but the speed of the boat!
