Build Your Own Space Rocket

January 26th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Toys

Model Space Rocket
Seems we have 2 totally different cardboard home builds to report on today which is strange as normally we don’t have any. The latest thing to make is a 1:48 scale model of the Apollo V rocket, which may not be as functional as the cardboard box speaker but it looks a load cooler.

This model is the sort of weekend family project, which will likely mean Dad taking over when the kids get bored. As well as the model looking cool, the other great thing about it is that it is totally free. You can download full instructions and templates in PDF format (though you’ll have to supply card and glue). The web site it’s on is pretty ropey and hard to read (Arrrg Comic Sans font) but the PDF’s look very professional and easy to follow.

Cardboard Box Speakers

January 26th, 2006 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Cardboard Box Speakers
I’m not too sure what the point of these is but they still look pretty cool, speakers that come in a box that you then take out of the box and make into a box. We thought it sounded strange too.

The cardboard box speakers are exactly that speakers in a cardboard box, whether such expensive casing enhances acoustic quality is unknown but some how I don’t think superior sound quality is the point of these.

Bling Power Cables

January 25th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets

LED Power Cables
I’ve never seen the point in adding internal lighting to your PC but if you’re that way inclined you can now do it really easily with the LED Flash Power Y Cable.

The LED Flash Power Y Cable acts as a two way adapter for the standard power connectors found inside your PC but all 3 ends also incorporate bright blue or red lights, making your PC internals glow. Probably not suited to the typical beige PC but if you have a flash case and want to make the most of that glass window then why not.

Available from Think Geek for 7 bucks.

7.7 Megapixel Mobile Phone

January 25th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

7.7 MegaPixel Samsung Mobile Phone
This is just crazy, Samsung are about to release a 7.7 Mega-pixel mobile phone. It’s due out in the Far East shortly and lets hope if it is popular that it will be released both sides of the pond soon after (though sounds doubtful for some reason).

It looks a bit larger than a regular mobile but hey what do you expect, my main digital camera is only 5.1 megapixels and it’s smaller than that. It also offers a larger than normal screen (not sure of exact resolution), optical zoom (which is also a bit special for a mobile) and the usual gubbins of connections. And did we mention it can also make and receive phone calls.

You can find a bit more info on Trusted Reviews and if you can find anything on the Samsung site you can have a job here as a researcher :).

Mermory Stick Lego

January 24th, 2006 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Mobile Phones, PC Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Memory Stick Lego HolderBefore my Sinclair Spectrum, Lego was my all time favourite toy. Even my Lego train-set was cool, in fact there wasn’t a single thing that I couldn’t make (when I was 7). Why am I going on about a toy that must be at least 50 years old? Today I saw a picture of a prototype memory card holder that looked just like, guess what, Lego blocks :)

The company behind these keychain cases, Best Rubber Productions have also made such classics as the Silicone Rubber Bracelet, the Silicone Rubber Cover for the iPod and the Silicone Rubber Ashtray. So you can probably guess what these little Lego key chains are made out of. Like conventional Lego they are also stackable so if you have several SD Cards or memory sticks you can store them all together in an infinitely expandable Lego house :).

Solar Powered Hearing Aid

January 24th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

Solar Hearing Aid
This is another one of those really life changing gadgets, the solar powered hearing aid.

The company Godisa is behind the solar powered hearing aids and are aiming by help of donations to make them available free to those who need them. I think it’s a great idea and use of technology, gadgets are often pretty frivolous but these can really help people.

If you’d like to help out you can always send them a donation.
