HyperDog Tennis Ball Launcher

September 13th, 2006 by Mike in Pet Gadgets

HyperDog
You’re dog loves to play fetch, but you just hate it. Maybe you’ve got a terrible arm and can only throw a miserable 50 feet, or you just hate touching the slimy ball after it’s covered with your dog’s slobber. You won’t have to embarrass yourself in the park any longer, that is, if you have a HyperDog Tennis ball Launcher.

It looks pretty weird, but it does what it does well. That is, it lets you throw tennis balls without actually touching them.

A Safe for your Car

September 13th, 2006 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

Compact Carsafe for SatNav
This is our second really obvious car gadget, the Autosafe, a safe for your car.

The autosafe is designed to protect your sat nav when you leave your car unattended, though I’m sure you’ll be able to cram a few more gadgets that you don’t want to carry around.

The lock is Thatcham accredited against a 5 minute attack test (which is probably long enough to deter the opportunist thief) The gadgets I carry around are probably worth more than my car so this could come in handy, then again they might just nick my car to carry the gadgets.

The Autosafe is available for £50 (~$90) from Widget.co.uk.

USB Car Charger

September 13th, 2006 by Al in USB Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

USB Car ChargerThis is one of those really obvious gadget ideas, a USB car charger. So provided you haven’t got a flat battery you can simply charge your USB gadgets via your cars cigarette lighter (I knew it had to be useful for something).

This has got me thinking, if all manufacturers agree (yeah I know they never will) we could use the Splash Power to charge our gadgets at home and if all future gadgets had a USB port we could use the car or any PC to charge our stuff when we’re out and about. It will never happen but it’s a nice idea.

Ministry of Gadgets sells the USB Car Charger for the bargain price of £3.95.

New iPods, iTunes and iTV

September 13th, 2006 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Tech News, iPod gadgets

Apple saved the music business with the iPod. Can they do the same for Hollywood?

In the five years since the iPod’s rollout, Apple has locked down the online music business. 1 in 5 Americans owns or has owned an iPod and consumers have downloaded more than 1 billion songs from Apple’s iTunes music store. Riding on the heels of that success, yesterday, Apple founder Steve Jobs fired his first shots in the battle to revolutionize the movie industry. In a special event called “It’s Showtime,” Apple unloaded new gadgets like it was Christmas morning.

Atlas Gloves - Control Google Earth with Hand Gestures

September 13th, 2006 by Al in Software

Atlas Gloves

What can you make out of 2 ping pong balls, a glue gun, 2 LED lights and a nail? A DIY hand gesture interface for Google Earth, obviously.

Atlas gloves are very easy to make (full instructions here) and with the help of a little free application you can navigate the globe by simple hand gestures. You’ve got to watch the video to appreciate how these things work, very strange.

Hat tip to Case for the link (via our gadget forums).

Webmaster Blog Contest - We came Third

September 13th, 2006 by Al in Site News

Best Blog Results

I’m an active member (dct) of the webmaster community Digital Point, over the last month there’s been a contest for which member has the best blog and I’m happy to say we were joint third.

In first place was ShoeMoney which is all about making hard cash on the web (Jeremy who runs it makes $100K+ a month so certainly knows what he’s talking about)

In second place was my friend Jason’s blog www.yfs1.com. Jason writes about a variety of entrepenuarial subjects and his Starting a Business tutorial is a must read for anybody doing just that.

We shared third place with ProBlogger (IMO the #1 read for all active bloggers) and Find in Forums (not one I’d heard of before but I’m now a subscriber :)).

Considering all the other blogs are webmaster related I’m pretty chuffed (not used that word in ages) that our gadget blog was up there.

So thanks to all 10 people that voted for us, Blogmaster for starting the poll and Humm for nominating us.

Logitech Harmony 1000 aims to bring your life under control

September 13th, 2006 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Automation

harmony-1000.jpgLogitech has a brand new universal remote control in the house that comes equipped with all the functionalities that were available on its predecessors, with additional improvements to bring the Logitech Harmony 1000 Universal Remote Control to a whole new level. This affordably priced universal remote control could be classified as a necessary luxury as living rooms get more and more cluttered with plenty of new devices by the day. Any sane person could be excused for wearing a straight jacket as he/she tries to figure out which remote control is used to turn the channel on the HDTV, begin recording on your DVD recorder, as well as streaming music from the Home Theater PC and managing its play list.

Apple’s Announcements

September 12th, 2006 by Mike in Tech News

nano-2g.jpg
Apple hosted an event today and announced some new products. Unfortunately, the “true” video iPod was not among them, but there were definitely some cool ones.

The products announced were the 2G iPod Nanos, the 2G Shuffles, the 5.5G iPods, iTunes 7 with movie downloads, and the prototype DVR-type device known as iTV.
