Residential Water Slides

September 15th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Home Water SlideAfter enjoying Tiago’s recent pool gadgets series I thought I’d add one of my own, the SlideScapes Backyard water slide.

I’ve promised my daughter that our next house will have it’s own pool and once she sees this I’m sure she’ll want one of these to go with it. Slide Scapes are water slides designed for residential dwellings, what would be really cool is having a balcony outside your master bedroom with slide into the pool below (could there be a better way to wake up (okay yeah there is ;)). You can also use the excuse that it will save you money in water park admission fees :).

For full information and availability check out Slide Scape, I’m now off to start earning some money for the next place.

Pool Gadgets - Series 5

September 14th, 2006 by Tiago in Miscellaneous Gadgets

After the tremendous success of the latest Pool Gadgets edition there was one item that got worldwide attention, the Inflatable Iceberg was first seen here at Coolest Gadgets and it was so cool and special that deserved a remarkable mention at Digg and plenty of other sites :)

To finish the Pool Gadget series in style, here is what I have for you:

A floating spa to be used inside the pool - this could be the best product in these series after the inflatable iceberg. The Hotpod is easy to setup, just plug the intake hose of the pool and wait a couple of minutes till it is filled up. It’s big enough ( 56″ w x 56″ h x 33″ ) to have a maximum capacity of 4 adult personas and a water capacity of 450 gallons.

CD/DVD Title Printer

September 14th, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets

CD/DVD Title Printer
Writing on your CDs with a Sharpie is good enough for most people, but it definitely isn’t professional looking. If professionalism is what you’re looking for, you won’t mind paying the cash for a CD/DVD Title Printer.

It looks like a standard labeler, a bit bulky, and a keypad and a small display. The only difference is that it will write onto your discs instead of making those hard-to-peel labels.

iTunes 7 Interface Changes

September 14th, 2006 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, iPod gadgets

After you download and install iTunes 7, you may be a little surprised at the new user interface. It doesn’t even remotely resemble the standard Mac OS X Aqua theme set. iTunes 7 has a much flatter and darker appearance like a Windows or Java application.

The reaction to the new iTunes 7 interface is mixed at best. Most people feel iTunes 6 was prettier with its bright glossy controls gone. True. But the smoother and darker interface of iTunes 7 at least cleanly packs more features into the familiar iTunes interface. As a result, the new iTunes 7 interface makes it much easier to sort movies and TV shows from your music. Also iTunes now plays back video much better than it did before. Probably a good idea since they are selling movies now.

So why would Apple make such a drastic interface design change? Could this be a taste of things to come in Apple’s next operating system - Leopard? Has Aqua been replaced by a flat, smooth, darker appearance? If you think hard enough, you might remember that iTunes got the new improved Aqua interface before the rest of the iLife 06 apps.

The Aquarium Basin

September 14th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Fish BasinI though the toilet aquarium was a little on the strange side but I reckon the aquarium basin is going to take even more getting used to. Whilst you’re bent over brushing your teeth you can see your pet gold fish swimming around and under the basin, what could be more natural than that.

I think stuff like this is cool but do wonder what sort of people come up with the ideas and what sort of people actually part with their hard earned cash and buy them. If you’d be tempted to buy this sort of “art” please let me know so I can try and tempt you with a piece of art that my pet fish and I are currently working on.

Further fish basin info over at rossari, found via those crazy people at Crib Candy.

Polar Pitcher keeps temperature in check

September 14th, 2006 by Edwin in Home Gadgets

polar-pitcher.jpgAny experienced beer drinker (you can spot those by the size of their rotund bellies) know that young punks are often the ones who down their drinks in the fastest manner possible without pausing for a second to enjoy the taste of hops and malt that went into making the beer. One good thing about that is your beer does not have the time to get warm, and it is a given fact that warm beer has a pretty off-putting taste. Placing ice-cubes in the beer jug would not solve the problem in the long run either, as the ice cubes will melt and dilute the nectar of the gods further.

DIY Ice Swan Sculpture

September 13th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Ics SwanYou sometimes see ice sculptures at posh parties or weddings. Most people do not have a) the skill or b) the surplus money to have an ice sculpture at their weekend barbecue (the ones I get invited to are generally bring your own food and beer (you know who you are)). Well now you can impress all your mates by making your own Ice Swan Sculpture.

To make your own ice swan you don’t need special chisels and years of practice (you don’t even need a block of ice). Simply pour cold water into the supplied mould, stick it in the freezer over night and hey presto you have your very own swan made from ice. The frozen swan measures 29 x 23 x 8 cm which may not be as impressive as the ones at celebrity parties but it will take the attention away from your burnt burgers :).

The DIY Ice Swan kit is available from Latest Buy for just over £20 (~$38).
