The Hewlett Packard Enterprise Server is literally bullet-proof.

April 26th, 2006 by Paz in Tech News

Bullet passes through HP server

In a bizarre stunt, HP has released a video of an experiment where they fired a .308 calibre bullet into one of their Storageworks servers to show that they are truly “bulletproof”. As if potentially destroying a half a million dollar’s worth of electronics weren’t enough; they somewhat outrageously set up a fish tank behind the server.

Glass Radiators

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets

Glass Radiator

Radiators are generally pretty boring inanimate household objects which is why it was a refreshing change to see this uniquely designed radiator from Prefit. The radiator is made from glass and looks more like a piece of art than a regular wall mounted white heater. I wonder if you could take the concept further and do away with radiators all together and just have windows.

3D Sudoku

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Toys

Suduko 3D Cube PuzzleIf you find Sudoku puzzles a bit too easy, and find solving the Rubiks cube a piece of cake you might want to give this puzzle a go, The Sudoku Cube.

It’s a combination of Sudoku and the Rubiks cube where upon you need to twist it in such a way that all digits from 1-9 appear once and only once on each side of the cube.

I never could do the Rubiks cube so this just looks impossible, but I reckon if you show it to people really quickly and yell I’ve solved it nobody will be able to tell the difference :).

World’s Smallest PC?

April 26th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets

SpaceCube PC

I don’t know if this the worlds smallest PC (I’m sure we’ve reported on a smaller one) but it’s still exceedingly small measuring just 52mm x 52mm x 55mm.

Stop Dogs Barking with a Gadget

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Super Bark StopIf you have an annoying neighbour or more appropriately a neighbour with an annoying barking dog you’ll love this gadget, the stupidly named Super Bark Stop.

The Super Bark Stop works by deterring barking dogs with an ultrasonic tone that only dogs can hear. Whenever a bark is detected the Super Bark Stop will spring into action, hopefully (if the dog isn’t too dumb) it will associate it’s annoying barking with the the vengeful (but harmless) ultrasonic sound hence causing it to shut up.

You can get the Super Bark Stop (why did they call it that) from Untangled Life.

Robot that Can Walk on Water

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Walk on water RobotA professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh has developed a robot that can run on water. Inspired by the basilisk lizard (AKA the Jesus lizard), the robot has paddles for feet which by “slapping” on the surface of the water give it both upward and forward momentum.

Other than the obvious cool remote control toy market the robot could also have a serious use in the field of search and rescue and it just goes to show how much we can learn from the animal kingdom (I actually sounded serious on a post then).

You can read more about it on Discovery.

Electronic nutritional scales.

April 25th, 2006 by Paz in Kitchen Gadgets

Dietary kitchen scales.

They say you are what you eat, and these kitchen scales can tell you, exactly, the nutritional content of just about any food you use to prepare a meal.

The scales come with an in-built computer that can analyze the nutritional content of the food you are weighing, from a database of over 1,400 different foodstuffs.

The scales not only report on nutritional information, but they can keep a record of total dietary intake, for up to two people, so that you can monitor calorie intake as well as other important dietary information over time.

Exercise Machine For Swimmers

April 25th, 2006 by Al in Sport

Endless Pool

Joggers and walkers have the treadmill, rowers have the rowing machine, even skiers have their own skiing exercise machine. But what is there for one of the most common sports, swimming. Up until now if you wanted to practice swimming you’d have to have the money and space for your own pool or travel along down to your local community swimming pool, thanks to the Endless Pool you should be able to have a pool of your own to practice your strokes in, in a much smaller space (though still not exactly cheap).
