We’re Recruiting Writers Again

September 22nd, 2006 by Al in Site News

Writers Quill
It’s that time again when we’re looking to recruit some new part-time writers.

The sort of people we’re after should have the following characteristics:

  • Keen technology and gadget follower
  • You find the best and most obscure gadgets before all your friends
  • Write in an informative and social manner
  • Wicked sense of humour
  • Enjoy beer (or coffee if you’re a coder)

If you think you’ve got what it takes please send us a sample of your work and a few sentences explaining why you’d like to join the CG team.

Cash is available for the right people, as well as entry and expenses to various trade show exhibitions if so desired.

Piggy Bank

September 22nd, 2006 by Al in Toys, Wacky Gadgets

Piggy Puzzle

The Piggy Bank Puzzle takes 3D jigsaws to the next level, not only do you have to put it back together you also have to glue all the pieces. I wonder if you can complete it numerous time by throwing it against the wall (probably not advisable).

The Piggy Bank Puzzle is available from Firebox for £19.95.

The Remember Ring

September 21st, 2006 by Mike in Miscellaneous Gadgets

The Remember Ring
One of the worst things, if not the worst, a husband can do is forget his own anniversary. You will never forget to get flowers or some jewelry with your Remember Ring.

It looks like a standard ring, nothing special. But inside, there’s a heating element that will start to heat up when it’s about 24 hours to the special day. The temperature starts at 120 F and keeps getting warmer every hour from there.

Xlider another Boarding Phenomenon

September 21st, 2006 by Al in Sport, Vehicle Gadgets

Xlider

My friends over at Gizoo have just started their own blog. One of their first posts is about the Xlider and these things look very cool (though maybe not as cool as the Scarpar). The Xlider is a combination of roller blading and boarding. You have two small boards (one per foot) and each board has 2 Rollerblade like wheels.

They are “supposedly” simple to learn and come with an optional training cable to prevent you legs going off in different directions. By the looks of the Xlider videos you propel yourself like Blading, but as your not attached to the Xlider boards this opens various additional tricks.

You can find further info over at xlider.eu, found via the Gizoo blog.

Broken iPod Reborn as iPod Dock

September 21st, 2006 by methodshop in Wacky Gadgets, iPod gadgets

Got a broken iPod? If you can’t fix it yourself or don’t have the money to get it repaired by iPodMods, then you can always rip it apart and make an iPod dock like Andrew Monks. This photo montage on flickr shows how he teared apart his existing iPod dock and jammed it through the screen of his broken 3G iPod.

It’s a very clever way to make something useful out of a busted iPod. The folks at Engadget think this might be the “start of a very wonderful, very cannibalistic trend in consumer electronics.” It’s always nice to breathe new life into an old gadget that you blew a couple hundred bucks on right?

Control your Dreams with NovaDreamer

September 21st, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Lucid DreamsHave you ever been lying in bed asleep, having a great dream but also being conscious enough to intentionally influence the direction your dream takes?

This has happened to me on a few occasions and I just found out today this phenomenon is known as Lucid dreaming. I also didn’t realise you can train your mind to be able to lucid dream at will (whenever it’s happened to me before it’s been purely accidental, often on holiday when the heat disturbs my sleep pattern (or is it the beer)).

The Orgasmatron 3000

September 21st, 2006 by Al in Kitchen Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Orgasmatron 3000This is probably the kinkiest kitchen appliance I’ve ever seen, the Leather clad Orgasmatron 3000, washing machine.

As if a leather clad washing machine wasn’t strange enough, it also comes complete with a built in saddle so “You can ride the machine” so to speak (if it’s anything like my washing machine that might take some holding on to).

The Orgasmatron 3000 is designed by Dominic Wilcox and is currently on show at Room X (Habitat, Regents St, London) which is part of the London design festival, I wonder if it comes with a whip :).
