Aurora colour clock – changes colour every hour.

March 23rd, 2006 by Paz in Cool Clocks

Aurora colour clock.

This is a cool looking gadget from Aurora. It’s a clock that changes colour every hour, on the hour, to help soothe those sleepless nights. In fact I could well imagine myself staying awake the whole night waiting for the next colour change!

The attractive-looking translucent alarm clock comes with twelve different colours, each bringing a warm glow to the bedroom. The makers guarantee that at least one of the colours will match the décor of your room for an hour a day! If you get bored waiting for the next colour change, you can switch to demo mode to speed up the process, and you can even switch the light off, but I can’t think I’d ever want to do that.

The 8 x 8 x 8 cm clock uses a standard mains adaptor or can run on 4 AAA batteries if you want to take with you when you’re away from home and can’t relax. Interestingly the clock functions at temperatures as low as -26C (-32F) though I have to say that even my fascination with this gadget would probably wither as the temperature crept to 30 degrees below freezing. But I guess it might be re-assuring to know that the alarm would still wake me up the next morning – assuming I lived to see the dawn break.

The glowing, ambient clock retails at £15 ($26) and, perhaps not surprisingly, is sold out at the present time. You can still place an order though; the next delivery is expected for April 8th.

Dilbert Book

Dilbert Comic Strip
I just needed an excuse to post a Dilbert strip, so here it is. The twenty fourth Dilbert book “It’s Not Funny If I Have to Explain It” is now available at Think Geek (though it’s probably cheaper at Amazon). :)

Samsung announces 32 GB flash memory drive.

March 22nd, 2006 by Paz in PC Gadgets

Samsung 32 GB solid state hard drive

Samsung have announced their new 32 GB solid state hard drive. For those of you who don’t know (and for my Mum who reads all these coolest-gadget articles), a solid state drive uses “flash memory” instead of electro-mechanical parts, which are much slower.

Last year, Samsung launched a 16 GB solid state drive (shown here), which was too expensive and didn’t provide enough storage space to be a realistic prospect for most people. Now that they’ve doubled the storage capacity, things are getting more interesting.

Gadget Urinal #1

March 22nd, 2006 by Al in Gaming Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

TFT Urinal
We don’t post about many urinals (actually this is the first) but today we seem to of found two. The first of the pair is still in the concept stage at the moment but does look kind of interesting (if you can say that about an urinal).

The idea behind it is to improve hygiene by stopping us blokes from missing (not that I ever do :)). It does this by incorporating an LCD screen inside the urinal which is turned on by a pressure activated switch. You then actually play a game on the screen, by using your “flow” to hit an ever decreasing sized target forcing you to concentrate on where your aiming.

I wonder if you could hack it and play Quake, it would surely be more destructive than a BFG though may defeat the purpose of aim and hygiene .

Rex the electronic guard dog

March 21st, 2006 by Paz in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Rex the elctronic guard dog

I hate dogs. Ok, so I’ve lost half of you already, and I’m sorry; but dogs are always trying to lick your face one minute, and sniff your private parts the next, and I hate that.

But if I don’t like dogs, burglars like them even less! There’s no doubting the deterrent effect of a big, mean hound in the home.

With Rex Plus, the electronic guard dog, you can have a pal to watch over the home that doesn’t need taking for walks, poop scooping etc.

Phlash - The Flash for your Mobile

March 21st, 2006 by Al in Mobile Phones, Photography

Phlash Camerphone Flash
My last 3 mobile phones have all had an inbuilt camera, with each generation improving on the last. One thing I find most camera phones seem to lack is any sort of flash. Well I was obviously not alone in noticing this limitation, as you can now buy Phlash, the world’s first universal Camera-phone flash.

The record-breaking 7 mm cell phone from KFT Technologies.

March 20th, 2006 by Paz in Mobile Phones

The 7mm thick cell phone from KFT

The Korean manufacturer KFT Technologies have released what they claim is the world’s slimmest cell phone, the EV-K100; code-named the “No. 7”. Actually, the phone is 7.9 mm thick, which makes it nearer a “No. 8” in my book, but I still want one.

My heart sank when I saw the 400,000 won price tag, but as it happens that turns out to be just over $400 (in real money), so I won’t have to hock the wife’s kidney machine to buy one.
