The self-destructing USB hub

October 2nd, 2006 by Mike in USB Gadgets

Self Destructing USB Hub
Everyone’s seen those movies where there’s a bomb, and that little box with the key holes, switches, and the infamous plastic lid covering the big, red button.

It be great to have one of those boxes in your house, right? Of course, they’re cool, and have all sorts of buttons and switches to play with; they probably make noise, too!

plusID

plusID
More and more these days, fingerprint scanners are being built into laptops, but they haven’t yet made their way into fobs, until now.

The folks at plusID have the pleasure to bill themselves as the first to put a fingerprint scanner into something you can pop onto your keychain. Hoorah for them.

Pogo Stick Extreme

October 2nd, 2006 by methodshop in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport, Toys
Coolest Gadgets

Looking for the next extreme sport? How about Extreme Pogo Sticking!? All you need is a pogo stick on steroids like the Flybar 1200.

This isn’t your average pogo stick (pro skateboarder Andy Macdonald helped develop it). The Flybar 1200 has a complex spring system consisting of 12 independent rubber thrusters capable of producing 1,200 pounds of power. In case you are wondering, that’s enough to get a 170-pound rider over 5 feet of elevation.

The Flybar 1200 also has extra-wide foot pads, with skateboard grip tape for stability and control. You’ll need that extra stability if you decide to do some backflips. Yep. I said backflips.

1000 pages per minute? That is what I call a printer!

October 2nd, 2006 by Dan in PC Gadgets, Tech News

LCD Printer

What if we could make printers work similarly to a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)? That is, instead of having an ink head moving back and forth across the page you would have one large head (the size of a sheet of paper or larger) composed of many ink spots, called nozzles. The printer would then emit pixels of ink just like the LCD emits pixels of light. The “whole page” printing technique would incredibly increase the printing speed.

AutoAlert reverse sensor

October 2nd, 2006 by Edwin in Vehicle Gadgets
Coolest Gadgets

autoalert.jpgAre you a klutz when it comes to reversing? Do you hate parallel parking as you can’t quite seem to get the angle correct, much less getting out of a tight spot that more often than not lands you in hot soup as you gently kiss either bumper on the front and back? Perhaps it is high time you install a reverse parking sensor in your jalopy lest you keep on leaving scrapes and nicks on other people’s vehicles. The AutoAlert is one such device that will greatly boost your confidence when it comes to parallel parking, and you don’t have to ask your partner to alight and manually show you via hand signals how close you are to the pillar.

ibm-karaoke.jpgJapanese love their karaoke, and the new Kyoku NAVI is guaranteed to elevate the social art of karaoke to the next level. This portable karaoke device is the result of a collaboration between IBM and Xing, and comes with a touch screen interface that enables users to browse through the list of songs in a simplified manner without shifting through page after page in traditional plastic files. The NAVI device also comes with wireless connectivity which enables one to update the latest playlist as well as stream videos for your viewing pleasure in order to shift your attention to the latest dance moves by Beyonce instead of fully placing your concentration on the caterwauling of your mate who can’t sing to save his life.

October 1st, 2006 by Mike in Vehicle Gadgets

CarChip
The Locate 1 GPS tracker enabled you to track anything that moved, but it required a monthly fee and a pricey unit. If you want to make yourself even sneakier, while still being your cheap old self, check out the CarChip.

CarChip uses the OBDII protocol, which started coming with cars in the US starting in 1996. That protocol allows the CarChip to track all sorts of things about you cars actions, be it the speed, mileage, or even how hard you brake.
