How many of you big, burly men are willing to face any danger or trial that heads your way, but when it comes to a needle prick, you cower behind the nurse’s skirt no matter how much you want to impress her with your tattoo-laden arm? Sometimes, a bad experience at the hospital or clinic could develop a phobia of needles as an intern fails to find the right vein on your arm, treating you like a pin cushion and venting his frustration on you by being less gentle with each insertion. All this can be a thing of the past now with the VeinViewer from Luminetx.

Having an alarm clock by your bedside is so passe, and times have certainly changed to give you many more options. One of such options include the WidgetStation, a gadget that has been picked to participate in the CES award roll by winning the Design & Engineering Showcase Honors 2007. Other than the fact that it would look extremely nice in any bedroom, what exactly does the WidgetStation do, you ask? Well, the WidgetStation is a multi-functional device that contains many widgets that transfers relevant information to the display based on your preference.
MP3 Player/Pedometer/Radio
November 16th, 2006 by Tiago in Audio/Video Gadgets, Sport
Can this be just another MP3 player with a Pedometer? Probably yes, but it is still worth talking about it because offering CG readers the chance to read about different products that have the same end is just one of the things I like to do, it is like offering more options when you are interested to buy a gadget but can’t decide which one to go for.
So, lets start from the beginning (pretty strange sentence but most people don’t actually do it) – a Pedometer is a little device used by people that exercise and want to have some kind of information related to the current exercise they are doing, usually the pedometer allows the user to count steps, set a distance, record movements, etc.

The Relaxman Capsule
November 16th, 2006 by Mike in Wacky Gadgets
Even though everyone loves Christmas, unless you don’t celebrate it of course, it can be a bit stressful. Not so much for kids, but for the parents who have to worry about getting all the right presents, organize trips to relatives houses, bake cookies (mmm, Crinkles!), put up the lights, and mail cards it can get pretty stressful. With all those things to do, they’d really appreciate a Relaxman. I just hope you have the cash to get them one.

My wife’s new Macbook Pro,, what’s worth loading on it?!
November 16th, 2006 by Fred in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software
So my wife got a sweet new Macbook Pro, yes,, the REALLY new one. My question to you, as a non-fruitputerist, (did I say that right?) Is what to load, that’s actually useful for a regular human.
Keep in mind She (and occasionally I) will be using it for regular web based human uses (fun and work). There will be no-database construction, web programming, flash programming, programming, or massive FTPing. There will also be no in-depth registry editing, or macro creation either. So what we’re looking for here is,, real software usable by real people (ok, and sometimes she sequences DNA (if you have any great tree/sequencing software, it’s be appreciated too!)). Is it a Book or Kitchen Scales
November 16th, 2006 by Al in Kitchen Gadgets
As I’m in the process of fitting a new kitchen I’m on the lookout for useful (or quirky) kitchen gadgets (so far I have a flip down LCD TV and an American style fridge on my shopping list).
Kitchen scales are generally pretty boring so it was interesting to see these ones which work like traditional scales but are also shaped like a book so when not in use you can stand them alongside your regular cook books.
The Book Weighing Scales are available from mzuko for £54.99.
Have your own Cryptex!
November 16th, 2006 by Dan in Miscellaneous Gadgets
The Cryptex is a device that appeared on the novel The Da Vinci Code. Basically it represents a secure vault used to protect secrets, requiring a password to be opened. The novel portraits the object as designed by Leonard Da Vinci himself. Inside the Cryptex one can find a scroll of papyrus wrapped around a vinegar cylinder, which should break down in the case someone attempts to force it.
Sounds cools eh? Well, now you can buy your own personal Cryptex! It is a working replica created by artist Justin Nervins. “A life-long fascination with puzzles and problem-solving games led Nevins to the development of this one-of-a-kind Cryptex Security Box - proving one of his most interesting projects yet and capturing the attention of those here and abroad, who share his insatiable curiosity and appreciation of the quality woods, stones and metals he hand selects for each piece.” Read the rest of this entry »
MSNBC Gets Mac Friendly
November 16th, 2006 by methodshop in Tech News
I guess the Internet video battle between QuickTime, RealPlayer and Windows Media is over. Who won… none of the above. Sites like MySpace and YouTube have made Flash the standard flavor of video on the Internet. Even Microsoft has thrown in the towel. Their news website, MSNBC.com switched over to Flash in October.
It was probably a painful decision for Redmond to admit defeat, but they were losing eyeballs and ad revenue on a daily basis. If you wanted to watch video on MSNBC.com’s site, you had to be using Internet Explorer on a PC. But as the Macintosh user base grew (thanks to the iPod) and more and more people started using the FireFox web browser, Microsoft saw their audience start to shrink. Microsoft had to finally face the fact that they needed a cross-platform video player that worked with other web browsers.
Charlie Tillinghast, president and publisher of MSNBC.com, had this to say in a company email “We have been pushing for a player that works on Mac and Firefox for a long time and are eager to see it launch… Some people assume that Microsoft, and by extension MSNBC, are anti-Mac, but it should be noted that Microsoft makes an outstanding version of Office for the Mac, including the Entourage email system. I purchased a new iMac in anticipation of this release and we have several in use at MSNBC itself.”
Is it me or did hell just freeze over at Redmond?
