Since the iPhone was launched last year, all we’ve heard about was iPhone this and iPhone that. For a while, it seemed as though the whole world was caught up in iPhone fever, and it looked like the iPhone is going to be the de facto handset for everyone just like how the iPod is currently king of the hill where portable media players are concerned. Good to know that iPhone fever has died down, although that doesn’t mean it won’t continue to do well though. Other cell phone manufacturers have also stepped up their efforts in a bid to dethrone the iPhone as the definitive touchscreen handset, and we’ve seen efforts from Samsung and LG as well as Nokia recently, but those have failed to capture the imagination of the masses as how the iPhone did. Well, there is some hope that the recently released BlackBerry Storm over Verizon Wireless could be the messiah, or is it not?

November 20th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Kingston is well know for their range of memory products, and the DataTraveler line has been pretty popular all this while. This time round, they have just increased the maximum capacity in the Kingston DataTraveler 150 USB flash drive to touch the 64GB mark, making it a viable substitute for portable hard drives.
According to Jaja Lin, Flash business development manager, Kingston, “The new 64GB DataTraveler 150 takes transportable storage to the next level with big capacity in a small package. As file sizes increase with digital media content such as music and photos, the need for USB Flash drives with high capacities will continue to rise. The DT150 certainly addresses those needs today.”
You won’t have any problems with the Kingston DataTraveler 150 64GB running on Windows Vista, XP and Windows 2000 in addition to Mac OS X 10.3 (and above) and Linux 2.6 (and above) platforms. Each $177 purchase comes with a five-year warranty and 24/7 tech support.
Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drive gets colorful
November 20th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Seagate has a new idea (although this idea has been rehashed to the death by many other companies) to help you make a holiday season purchase easier - by introducing its award-winning FreeAgent Go portable hard drive in all the colors of the rainbow, where think pink, solar orange, spring green, forest green, sky blue and champagne gold will join the original four colors of ruby red, royal blue, tuxedo black and titanium silver. This does not mean the original colors will be stopped - it just means you have a much wider array of portable hard drives to choose from for your loved one.
Litter Box Odor Eliminator
November 20th, 2008 by Edwin in Pet Gadgets
We all know how smelly things can get even with cat litter in the home, since cat poop has that strong, pungent smell which tends to overwhelm even air fresheners. Well, with the Litter Box Odor Eliminator, all your olfactory problems are now solved as it relies on electric power to keep things smelling nice and fresh. It is environmentally friendly since it does not rely on chemicals, and good to know that it does not require any filter replacement, being strong enough to even de-scent skunk odor. The Litter Box Odor Eliminator retails for $39.98 a poop - er, pop.
Let’s sWAP a watch for a phone
November 20th, 2008 by Edwin in Cool Clocks, Mobile Phones
A watch phone is one piece of convergence consumer electronics that I don’t really agree with - it looks plain weird talking to your wrist (hence making a Bluetooth headset essential), and the screen is way to small to be of any productive use. Still, that hasn’t stopped people from coming out with a range of watch phones, and the sWAP is the latest in a long line.
The sWaP Watch has turned the tables on our plucky pocket phone friend and has stolen all of its coolest functions. It not only tells the time, but the wearer can pop in their SIM card to transform the watch into a wrist communicator a la Dick Tracy. And there’s more. Built into the strap is a 1.3 megapixel camera, so you can sneakily snap all of those top secret government documents you keep finding left on the pub table - or you could just take pics of your mates. The memory card slot allows you to insert a T-Flash card to upgrade the already impressive 128MB memory to a whopping 2GB. With all that memory you’ll have no problem storing all your MP3s and you can even watch MP4 movies on the 1.5 TFT color touch screen. You can access WAP sites, bringing the world wide web to your wrist and the watch is Bluetooth enabled, so if you’re sick of getting tangled up in your hands free kit you can banish the wires forever.
You will be able to pick up the sWAP watch for £249, and it makes for an interesting Christmas present.
Vertical Blinds use LEDs, solar power
November 20th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets
I used to have vertical blinds in my bedroom, but I found that they really killed all the light in the room, even during the daylight.
It appears that designers Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim have designed a blind that actually gives light. These individual tiles have a grid of white LEDs inside that can be clicked on in a variety of all sorts of shapes and sizes.
So, if you want some lights in the shape of a lamp, this is definitely the way to go. I have to admit that this is something that I never really imagined, but now that I have actually seen it, I can see limitless potential! Just think Christmastime, and you will know what I mean.
HP TouchSmart TX2 is a nice touchscreen laptop
November 20th, 2008 by Mark R in PC Gadgets
Nothing like a touchscreen computer from HP, and the TouchSmart TX2 is one of the coolest I have seen for a while. The touchscreen can be used by two fingers, and the user can apply iPhone gestures like pinch, rotate, arc, flick, press and drag, and single and double tap.
The TouchSmart TX2 is unique as it has a specially-designed hinge so a user can convert it into three modes: PC, display, and tablet. It even has a rechargeable digital ink pen that allows the user to draw on the screen. If you want to use the pen to write, it will automatically turn the handwriting into typed text.
The very bendable Armlite Floor Lamp
November 20th, 2008 by Ally in Home Gadgets
If you’re very particular about the position of lighting, you’ll love this bendy lamp. It has several points at which it can bend down and around so that it’s at the perfect spot for you. I doubt anyone would be in dire need of a lamp that can spotlight its own base, but it’s still a cool idea. Even better is the quirky lamp comes in plenty of colors, so it would fit in great with any kids room.
