Monopoly Banking brings the future to your living room

by Edwin - on July 1, 2011

Do you love a good game of Monopoly? Well, for most of us, it is one of the rare moments in life to savor, as it is when you are able to actually pay for an entire house, or even hotel, with nothing but cold, hard cash. Yes sir, just flaunt all that wealth and hark back to the days when $100 actually meant something, and being a millionaire is nothing to sneeze at.

Well, with the relentless attack of inflation as well as changing times, even the board game Monopoly needs to be revamped – hence the introduction of Monopoly Banking. No more paper notes in Monopoly Banking, as you will carry your very own debit card this time around. There’s also no need to count those small notes, as all you need to do is swipe your card (like in real life) and you’re good to go.

As for the old school metal tokens, those have received an upgrade as well, riding on a skate board instead of a sports car, munching on a cheese burger while talking on your mobile phone. The price has remained pocket friendly though at just £29.99.

Solitaire Chess

by Edwin - on July 1, 2011

If you’re a chess whizz kid who absolutely hates to lose, then you might find yourself preserving your unbeaten track record among your peers – but that’s because no one wants to play with you because you’re such a sore loser. Or it could be you’re just too good, and not a gracious winner at all.

Well, guess you will just have to play with yourself then, and since chess is a 2-player game, what other option do you have? Enter Solitaire Chess, which offers a strategic twist on a timeless classic. This is the perfect tool for you to sharpen your chess game – or perhaps, perfect it if you’re nearly there already. You have five dozen challenges to choose from, ranging from beginner to expert to keep your noggin’ occupied this summer.

The $19.99 Solitaire Chess will stretch your critical thinking muscles to the maximum, ensuring that even during the off season, you can still get your practice “shots” in.

Samsung invites travel weary gizmos to charge up

by Edwin - on July 1, 2011

Modern day devices are able to perform a whole lot of tasks, but there is still one major drawback to think about – the lack of battery life. Yes sir, your smartphone might be able to help you arrive at an unfamiliar destination, check the weather, surf the Internet, reply your emails, perform your online shopping needs, but at a price of draining its battery before the day is over.

Those who do plenty of traveling often have to juice up their devices the day before they fly, as only select flights come with a power outlet in economy class (First and Business class passengers need not worry), and sometimes, inter-continental flights might just push the boundaries of your device’s battery to the limit, especially when you’re bored with the in-flight movie catalogue. Samsung feels your pain, which is why they have installed 20 newly designed charging stations throughout the terminals at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

iPad speaker delivers sound the natural way

by Edwin - on July 1, 2011

How many of you own a speaker system at home, be it hooked up to your home theater setup, or being connected to your desktop/notebook? Well, safe to say that for the majority of you out there, these speaker systems will need some sort of cable to connect to a power outlet, as that is where they derive the necessary power from to make louder whatever you’re listening to.

Not so with this unique speaker which is totally natural and passive in nature. To make matters more interesting this speaker will be compatible with Apple’s hot selling iPad tablet device, helping it keep up with the times. Designer YellowGlueBlues is behind these wooden, iPhone and iPad speaker docks, where they are totally natural – meaning you won’t find any electronics or batteries inside.

Spy Net Night Vision Infrared Stealth Binoculars

by Mark R - on June 30, 2011

While I was covering the Plug and Play video games from Jakks Pacific, I also had a chance to try out this SpyNet Night Vision Infrared Stealth Binoculars.

This particular device is essentially night vision for kids. It definitely uses real night vision technology to see up to fifty feet in complete darkness.

I tried it out for myself, and I asked my daughter to try it out with me. I must admit that looking through the Spynet Night Vision caused her eyes to glow in a freaky way. It reminded me of the freaky ending to the movie Quarantine.

Sanyo introduces XX rechargeable batteries

by Edwin - on June 30, 2011

When it comes to rechargeable batteries, you won’t go wrong with the name Sanyo. After all, they are the ones who rolled out the eneloop series in the past, which are still going strong today. Heck, I have a few eneloops that I use around the home for my remote controls and old school digital camera, and they don’t show off any signs of wearing down despite so many charges over the years.

Well, it isn’t Sanyo’s character to just sit there without doing anything, which is why they have just announced the XX rechargeable batteries. These will naturally take a page out of eneloop’s book by relying on eneloop technology, making the XX powered by eneloop ready to use right out of the box as it can retain up to 75% of its charge after one year of storage. The XX powered by eneloop package of four AA batteries will arrive from next month onwards, retailing for $24.99 a pop. If you can’t wait, then look towards Amazon as they will be featuring the item for pre-sale starting from today onwards.

V-MODA announces V-80 on-ear headphones

by Edwin - on June 30, 2011

V-MODA has announced its latest pair of V-80 on-ear headphones, which is part of the V-MODA for True Blood range that was developed in partnership with HBO. The V-80 not only looks great, it functions great (on paper) as well. Being a lightweight, high-fashion headphone which is poised to redefine the headphone industry, it fuses life-like 3D sound, timeless materials, ultimate durability and the unique ability to shapeshift its style.

Customization fans would definitely fall in love with the V-MODA V-80 right from the get go, as it offers a great deal of customization options – especially for True Blood fans as they can choose from a range of designs which showcase their fanatical passion for the show. There will be a couple of iconic V-MODA metal ear shields, located on either side of the ear cushions, where these can easily be switched out so that you can show off other popular images and icons from the show – ranging from the night club, Fangtasia, to the Japanese symbols featured on the Tru Blood beverage.

Heck, you can even opt for your blood type after choosing to etch your name into temporary immortality (ironic, I know, but that’s what it actually is when you laser etch your blood type onto the metal ear shields, no?). Active fans will be able to enjoy using the V-80 without worrying about its ruggedness, as said headphones were specially built to pass the MIL-STD-810G military standard guidelines.

Haptic belt can guide soldiers

by Mark R - on June 30, 2011

I think we all know that soldiers have to make split-second decisions in order to survive. I suppose this is why scientists are working on a haptic belt that can transmits GPS directions to soldiers out on the field.

Instead of a soldier looking at a GPS handheld to figure out where he or she is going, the soldier wears a belt with haptic feedback. This belt has over eight “tactors” that are spaced out in 45 degree intervals, and when one of them vibrates, this indicates where the soldier should be going.

There is even the possibility of wirelessly linking the belt to a gesture recognizing glove, so that the leader can issue commands to multiple haptic belts. This can be done from a secured location, from miles away.
