Race Chairs make office work speedy, but expensive

July 29th, 2008 by James in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Life in our corporate cubicle world could stand a little speeding up and with these RaceCar chairs, it may very well be. The idea is to take a standard office chair and make it more stylish and comfortable by placing actual sports car seats on top, replacing the dull and uncomfortable swivel chairs in your average cubicle. But they’re not cheap.

USB Shell Speaker for your iPod

July 29th, 2008 by Ally in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

If you haven’t had enough of the novelty iPod speakers just yet, here’s another one for you.  This one comes in the shape of a shell.  Which just seems a bit bizarre and almost awkward.  Pig speakers, those were totally logical and cool.  This is just pointless, obviously.  Pig speakers are cooler, due to their pigish nature.  This, it’s just a shell.  Alright, so this may be cool to those with a love for the beach.  Especially in the middle of winter when you’re going out of your mind waiting on summer to come back.

DIY Music Box

July 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, DIY Gadgets

Most of us will know of music boxes as pleasant pieces of home decorative items that tinkle the day away while you take a break from all the rigors of the office. Folks who have a penchant for something different might be interested in the DIY Music Box that is capable of accepting any punched paper “score”.

This is the ‘big brother’ version of the Music Box Set. It has 20 notes instead of 15, so it can play 2.5 octaves. As a music box, it is quite a bit bigger, at 14.5 x 7 x 2.75cm high. Again, like the smaller music box, it just plays the white notes, and does not play sharps or flats. Included is the Music Box, one pre-punched strip which plays Romeo and Juliet, 2 blank strips, and a hole punch, so that you can create your own tunes! The strips are 66cm x 7cm.

You can pick up this alternative music box for £15.99.

RC Floor Sweeper

July 29th, 2008 by Edwin in DIY Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Remote Control

Inject some fun into your house chores with the RC Floor Sweeper - a device that is guaranteed to get the kids scampering after you, asking for dibs on getting the floor cleaned. The reason is simple - one end of an electrostatic dust mop has been connected to an RC car, letting you clean your room in record time without having to walk around (at least until the range between the remote control and car is too far apart). This will take care of minor dust bunnies and all, but it won’t do nuts for stains on the floor. Other drawbacks include not burning any more calories and you’re polluting the environment with more batteries.

Raku Raku Phone V hits Japan

July 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Medical Gadgets, Mobile Phones

NTT DoCoMo of Japan will be rolling out the Raku Raku Phone V from the 1st of next month onwards, and this will be a Fujitsu-produced clamshell handset that aims to simplify things for older folk. Some of the more interesting functions include repetition and slow pronunciation of conversation, speech recognition and text, the ability to track the health of the owner of this phone (no idea how this is done), and a pedometer. It supports national and international W-CDMA networks, and other specifications are as follows :-

  • Internal 2.8″ TFT widescreen display
  • External 1.4″ black-and-white FSTN display
  • microSD/microSDHC memory card format
  • 2 megapixel CMOS camera
  • GPS navigation capability

No idea on how much this will cost, but chances are you won’t be able to find it outside of Japan.

Fabrik [re]drive eco-friendly hard drive

July 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Everything and everyone’s going green these days, making me think that going green is the new black. I suppose we all want to do our part by helping keep the environment clean in a passive manner, hence the deluge of green products being released by manufacturers left and right. Fabrik is one of them, shipping what it touts to be the most eco-friendly hard drive in the world, although there aren’t any official benchmarks or studies done to affirm that self-proclaimed statement. I wouldn’t go up against it though, since the materials it is made from is already much greener compared to your regular hard drive. Known as the [re]drive, it uses bamboo as a design element and comes with low-impact packaging. Internally, you will find a 500GB hard drive for you to store all your precious files.

FuChat phone helps analyzes emotions

July 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Conceptual Gadgets

I guess it is true - the Good Book did mention, after all, that man has managed and is in the process of taming all sorts of creatures, but when it comes to the tongue, they fail miserably. Just look at the track record in your life - never mind that of other people whom you deem are worse off than you. The FuChat phone is one device that comes with the unique ability of detecting changes of tone in a person’s voice as well as in body temperature, analyzing such data and subsequently alerting the user to their current emotional state - just in case they don’t know it themselves. It would be pretty interesting to see a self-aware angry person looking at the FuChat phone “nagging” him to tone down on the angry rhetoric, and could result in a case of venting his anger on the handset itself eventually.

Brick-Brick Correction Tape

July 28th, 2008 by Edwin in Office Gadgets

Is Lego making a comeback or what? The Brick-Brick Correction Tape won’t be able to construct a huge, impressive monument, but does contain correction fluid within to help you cover up whatever mistakes you’ve made in your handwritten note after years of typing and actually forgetting how to write properly. I suppose only students and those in decrepit offices will need this as both parties have not yet made the leap over the digital divide. Interestingly enough, you will be able to snap two together just like Legos, but I wouldn’t waste $14 on a couple, let alone $7 on one.
