Introducing The Trons: An Autonomous Robot Band

by AndrewD - on June 18, 2008

First, The Beatles took on America, launching a British Invasion of music. Then Led Zeppelin took the hard rock world by storm. Should we be expecting another kind of invasion anytime soon? Perhaps a Robotic Invasion? Could robots eventually take the place of modern musicians, and do a better job of writing hit tracks? What could this mean for the future of the music industry?

Allow us to introduce to you, The Trons! A fully autonomous robotic band. Watch out U2! The Trons are a New Zealand based robot band which does a pretty good job rocking the house all on their own. The video above shows The Trons performing their rocker “Sister Robot”. The robot musicians are even designed to resemble humanoid figures.

PhonoFone II

by Mark R - on June 18, 2008

I think we all know that iPod speaker docks are a dime a dozen, and the only thing that makes iPod dock stand out above another is the design. While some designers go for a contemporary or futuristic look, the PhotoFone II owes its unique look to the past. Apparently, some designer was completely enamored by the old gramophones of the nineteenth century and made it for the iPod.

The horn of the PhotoFone II is not just there for an old-school aesthetic. No, there was a reason why these older record players were so horny (looking) back then. In this case, the acoustics of the horn-shaped speaker can boost the sound up to 55 decibels. That might not be enough to disturb your neighbors, but is good enough to fill a room with quiet sound, which is exactly what those old gramophones did back then.

The SIX lighted chair looks super comfortable

by Ally - on June 18, 2008

It seems today I have a thing for odd office furniture, I swear I didn’t actually start out the day deciding to write up electronically charged furniture.  First there was the Executive Desk, and now this odd little chair.  However, although the desk is up for sale, this chair is still a concept design.  The SIX chair was inspired by architectural designs, such as the Eiffel tower.  The odd little chair can be equipped with a light to give a nice glowing effect in your office.

Optoma Handheld Projector for Mobile Devices

by Mark R - on June 18, 2008

The other day we reported on a possible mini-projector for the iPhone. I just found out that a company called Optoma has just introduced the first Pico projector based on the DLP (Digital Light Processing) Pico chipset. This projector isn’t just for the iPhone or that snazzy iPhone 3G, but it is designed for any mobile device including iPods, PDAs, smart phones, and digital cameras.

According to the company, this is a “world’s first”, and will allow users to share photos and videos with a projected image that is 100 times bigger than that of their normal screen. Best of all, this projector is small enough to fit in a user’s shirt pocket.

The Executive Desk comes equipped with moving gears

by Ally - on June 18, 2008

I’ve been desk shopping for the greater part of a week now and been grumbling excessively about all the ones that are poorly set up.  Most have no keyboard drawer and don’t understand that some people enjoy having more than one monitor.  Not only is this desk set up well as far as enough space for a decent amount of monitors as well as a keyboard drawer, it is way cooler than anything I’ve seen on the market.  The Executive Desk is apparently a fully functional visual and kinetic desk as well.

Toshiba Portégé R500-S5007V laptop

by Edwin - on June 18, 2008

Toshiba scores yet another first when it comes to claims with its new Portégé R500-S5007V laptop that features at 128GB solid state drive, making it the lightest laptop in the world with a 128GB SSD and DVD Super-Multi drive, and it is also in line to gain the moniker of “the world’s thinnest with a SSD and DVD SuperMulti drive” as well. 128GB of storage space in the form of SSD is definitely a wonder, as that allows you to store a whole lot of data without worrying too much about hard drive crashes although it remains to be seen whether transfer of large chunks of data at once will see the performance meter drop when compared to traditional hard drives. Still, read on after the jump for more details of the Portégé R500-S5007V.
