Solve the Rubik’s Cube ASAP

by Edwin - on August 17, 2007

rubik-solved.jpgI’ve never managed to solve the Rubik’s Cube back in my day, and even until today I have yet to figure out the darned thing. The closest that I’ve managed (without any external help) would be having two rows of complete colors on all sides, with the last row confounding me over and over again. Each time I took a look at it, I could feel it taunting me as though I was less than human. There wasn’t any Internet back then to check out the type of solutions available for the Rubik’s Cube, but how times have changed. A number crunching supercomputer now allows one to solve the Rubik’s Cube in 26 moves or less, no matter how complicated it looks like in the first place. That’s pretty neat, and assuming one took less than a second to complete each move, the total time involved to solve it might even fall to one third of a minute.

Robotic creepy crawler

by Edwin - on August 16, 2007

1gakken-centipede-robot.jpg

Now here’s a robot that is almost guaranteed to freak out your entire household – the Gakken Mechamo centipede robot kit measures approximately a foot long when fully assembled and runs on batteries. There will be thirty two legs in total, moving along in a ripple of motion that you often find on a real centipede. Problem with this would be the constant tapping noise it makes whenever it scurries about your floor. I suppose a carpeted floor would help, but you can’t exactly carpet your entire home, can you? The Gakken Mechamo comes with a wireless remote control for you to take full control of it. It retails for $99.95 and requires a brain adept at deciphering the assembly instructions.

PlanetaRoom floats about

by Edwin - on August 16, 2007

planetaroom.jpg

PlanetaRoom is a novel idea that I think won’t find too many fans – it is actually a helium-filled beach ball that floats around your home, complete with images of the earth and moon on them. An interesting point to them would be the ability to glow in the dark, displaying all the pretty city lights at night or a map of the stars. Each of these PlanetaRooms retail for approximately $20. Just make sure this doesn’t float into any ceiling fan that is turned on lest your “planet” experiences an explosion that resembles bits and pieces of Humpty Dumpty all over the floor.

Getting Sirius about Satellite TV in the Car

by James - on August 16, 2007

Sirius BackSeat TV

Sirius, famous for its Howard Stern’s potty mouth radio show, is doing a Uturn when it comes to satellite television for the car with the release of the SCV1 Backseat TV.

Using only three channels – and all of them kid friendly (Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network) the SCV1 broadcasts to an on-board rear-seat video monitor (not included). This promises to keep the kids entertained with Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron and Hannah Montana while the adults are keeping their eyes on the road and listening to regular Sirius programming of 130 channels of sports, talk and music programming.

Ionic cooling for the future

by Edwin - on August 16, 2007

ionic-cooling.jpgYou might think that cooling your computer using a water-based solution is the best way to go, but the future could bring something very different to the table. Take for instance, many small wind engines that creates a “breeze” of sorts that is comprised of charged up particles (ions for short) that keeps computer chips cool. According to scientists, they believe that these tiny wind engines are more than able to take computing power to the next level. After all, as microprocessors grow even more powerful with each generation, the higher number of transistors packed inside tend to generate more and more heat which is detrimental to performance in the long run.

The Hand Grenade Watch

by Nick - on August 16, 2007

Vestal’s grenade watch

If you were looking for a different kind of watch, you must check the Vestal Grenade, one of the coolest and most original wrist watches I’ve seen. With its stainless steel case and a band made from leather and canvas, this watch is not for the average person, and it could make pacifists really angry, with its design inspired by a hand grenade.
