Little Brother is Watching You in the Sky

May 23rd, 2007 by Al in Spy Stuff

Little Brother

This looks like something that wouldn’t be out of place in “The Terminator”, the Microdrone, a remote control spy camera being trialled by the police in the UK.

Like the X-UFO the Microdrone uses four separate rotors to fly and is equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor suspects below (thermal imaging is also possible at extra cost). The Microdrone is controlled by an officer on the ground who wears a special visor (similar to the iTheatre) which receives and displays the video transmitted back from the drone.

This all looks pretty futuristic and a bit big brother (which is back on UK screens next week, oh joy), considering there is already one CCTV camera to every 14 people in the UK having a few more flying around probably isn’t going to make that much difference.

Via This is London, thanks.

Change the look of your phone

May 23rd, 2007 by David in Mobile Phones

metal skins

When you get a new and shiny phone its great, it looks good and feels good, but with a few weeks even the best of phones can become dull, scratched and even in some cases dented, and then the phone becomes a bit of a let down. So what is needed to put a bit of life back into the old phone is something that can cover up all those blemishes and at the same time make it look pretty cool in the process, but how can that be done?

3D holographic video in the works

May 23rd, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets

seereal-3dtv.jpgIt has always been a challenge to bring TV viewers the most realistic experience possible, and this can be seen by the progress from black and white to color TV, and from standard definition to full High Definition that everyone (with enough money, that is) is raving about. SeeReal Technologies are on a similar path, working on some kind of 3D holographic display technique that aims to bring 3D images into the living room without the need for those dorky looking 3D glasses that have long plagued the 3D world, giving a somewhat 3D effect complete with a splitting headache and churning tummy as miserable side effects.

TVs now shielded from wayward Wii remotes

May 23rd, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

safety-shield.jpg

When the Nintendo Wii was first released, I noticed that plenty of people took up gaming enthusiastically, and this newfound enthusiasm can be seen in how they actually make use of the Wii remote. The level of immersion within the game is truly high even without the help of high definition graphics, and this is made possible thanks to the quality gameplay of certain Wii titles (perhaps Sony could take a page out of Nintendo’s book in this aspect). Unfortunately, there is a downside to this level of interest shown by gamers when they play the Wii, as the amount of strength the gamer actually puts in flailing the Wii remote around is rather surprising. That can be proven by the amount of TV sets that have been “stabbed” by a wayward, flying Wii remote due to overzealous swinging and (perhaps) a weak strap. This brilliant idea of a Safety Shield for the TV has long been overdue, and I could not be more delighted to see it ready for a mass commercial launch.

May 22nd, 2007 by Andi in Gadget Gift Ideas, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets
spoiled shirt

Did you ever see a movie before your friends did? Of course! We all did, at one point. And can you remember those situations afterwards, when everyone asks you how the movie was? Of course, telling them what happens is out of the question and they’ll keep bitching about spoilers and about you ruining their fun.

The Canadian company “Straight Line Designs” creates furniture that’s different from everything you’ve ever seen.
