The Wedge Alarm for on the go security

by Ally - on February 4, 2009

Here’s another way to make sure no one sneaks into your home without your knowledge.  It would also be a great way to know if the kids have gone into a part of the house you don’t want them in.  Since it is just a small alarm, you can place it on a window, an outside door or even a door on the inside.  It would also work great for those that like to travel in their RV or camper.

Nissan IT-Assisted Road Information System

by Edwin - on February 4, 2009

Trust the Japanese to come up with ever safer methods of driving, and the latest would be the IT-Assisted Road Information System from Nissan. This system is in its infancy at the moment being in a research state, but ultimately its goal is to use cell phones and GPS receivers to provide advance warning to drivers concerning potentially dangerous situations and conditions, and this includes driving on the wrong way on freeway ramps – definitely useful when one has had a wee bit too much to drink when partying. Not only that, this system will also warn drivers of reducing and increasing speed at uphill and downhill grades. It would be interesting to see whether such a system will be implemented worldwide or not, but hey – anything that helps saves lives? We’re all for it.

Nikon P90 gives you the zoom-zoom lifestyle

by Edwin - on February 4, 2009

There is a slew of Nikon digital cameras released today, but we’ll take a look at the most powerful one among the whole lot (the rest are entry level and mid-range models) – the Nikon P90. This shooter comes with a really powerful 24x optical zoom which is the 35mm-equivalent of a 26mm wide-angle to a 624mm telephoto, allowing you to snap images from as close as 1cm – that’s really something. In addition, you can also capture a moment-by-moment collage of images thanks to its ability to shoot up to 45 shots at 15 fps, making it ideal for spots photography. The Nikon P90 is smart enough to capture images before you’ve even pressed the button to make sure your slow reflexes do not let you down. Other features include 12.1 megapixel images, sensitivity of up to ISO 6400, full automatic or various manual settings and four Anti-blur technologies (Auto Scene, Face Priority AF, Smile Mode and Blink Warning). You know a digital camera is serious about what it does when the only available color is black.

LeapFrog Scout puppy for kids

by Edwin - on February 4, 2009

LeapFrog Enterprises aims to entertain all you kids out there with yet another new product, this time round featuring the playful LeapFrog character “Scout” the puppy. There will be a quartet of new learning toys for kids who are aged between six months to three years, offering personalized play, on-the-go learning fun and assistance in building preschool readiness skills. These Scout-themed toys are all part of the LeapFrog Learning Path, a free online resource that provides parents with additional insight into what skills their child explores during play. You know something? While technology advances and helps parents provide the best learning environment possible to the kids, how come the general decline in moral values are there compared to our forefathers who had very little in terms of material wealth and playthings, and yet had the enviable moral integrity and honesty? Food for thought, eh? Still, that doesn’t mean toys like the LeapFrog Scout puppy is bad, after all, it does help you identify your child’s strengths to best position him/her at school later on.

Allio Lite from Silicon Mountain merges LCD TV with PC

by Edwin - on February 4, 2009

How many of you out there already own a nice HDTV (doesn’t matter whether it is plasma or LCD)? If so, what do you use it primarily for – to watch regular programming, your upscaled DVDs, Blu-ray movies or all three? How about the extremely niche market of folks who use their huge displays to do work over a computer? Silicon Mountain Holdings caters to this handful of people, recently announcing its Allio Lite, a converged LCD HDTV-PC product that won’t bust the lining of your pockets in these difficult times. Available in 42″ and 32″ sizes at 1080p and 720p resolutions respectively, both models will feature a similar selection of inputs and outputs compared to the original at a lower price point (ah, the wonders of mass production and lowered costs!)

Electrolux Versatility helps clean up your home

by Edwin - on February 3, 2009

Granted, the Electrolux Versatility is no smart vacuum where it will be able to dance across your floors sucking up dirt while you sit down on the couch and enjoy your favorite TV show. No sir, you will still need to work those muscles, but at least Electrolux makes your life much easier thanks to the Versatility’s handle that aims to provide effortless cleaning in a stylish and easy-to-use design.

Versatility, the first bagless upright vacuum from Electrolux, features an innovative handle that transforms into a telescoping wand system, complete with a crevice tool and dusting brush. The Quick-Release Buckle on the vacuum, conveniently designed to resemble a seat belt buckle, instantly “pops” up the handle, transforming it into a 14-foot wand that cleans above the floor.Versatility also boasts an @hand turbo which attaches to the wand for even deeper cleaning of pet hair, dirt and dust. When returning @hand to the unit, a magnetic fastener securely locks it into place on the vacuum.

The entire Versatility is further augmented by a three-stage cyclonic suction system that is smart enough to separate most of the dirt from the air before it even reaches the filter, allowing the filter to remain clean for the vacuum to retain maximum cleaning power. And to make life easier, the bottom-empty dust cup is a smart move when it comes to convenience and neatness. The Electrolux Versatility will be out this summer for $299.99 each.

Motorola Stature i9 iDEN phone

by Edwin - on February 3, 2009

iDEN phones aren’t the nicest things to look at as we all well know, but this time round Motorola’s Stature i9 does bear its namesake pretty well without having looks that only its designer could love. The Stature i9 will be available from Motorola and Boost Mobile to bring the thinnest flip iDEN phone in existence to the Nextel Direct Connect portfolio. Boost Mobile will be able to offer the Stature i9 from the end of this month onwards, while there is no word on Sprint’s release date although you can always pre-register your handset here to be among the first few to own it when available from that carrier. More on the features and specifications of the Stature i9 right after the jump.

Google Earth 5.0 takes you underwater

by Edwin - on February 3, 2009

Google Earth is one truly amazing piece of software, and I am glad that I am alive to actually see it work – something our ancestors could not, having to settle for maps instead of turning on a computer to view other parts of the world from the comfort of their air-conditioned room. Well, there is no reason for Google to rest upon their laurels, which leads us to an improvement on their project by offering a new feature to users – allowing us to dive beneath the water surface to explore underwater terrain in 3D while browsing ocean-related content courtesy of leaders in ocean science and advocacy. Personally, I think the entire effect would be much more pronounced if Google included some sort of Trash-o-Meter to indicate which segments of the earth’s water are polluted so that more awareness can be raised among the current generation to prevent further degradation of our seven seas.
