Opera 9 Beta 2 - Download it now

May 24th, 2006 by Tiago in Software

Opera 9 Beta 2 Preview

The famous Opera Browser has come a long way since its birth, and yesterday, Opera 9 Beta 2 became available for download. There might be some bugs since the product is not 100% finished, but that didn’t stop me from downloading and trying it out for 5 minutes.

One of the new features I like the most is the thumbnail preview = being able to see a preview of a site by hovering the mouse over a tab. This is good for the big tab users like me, that always have 6 or 7 tabs (at least) open and after much Internet surfing, can’t remember exactly what is on each tab.

Voice-activated remote controls that don’t need a battery

May 24th, 2006 by Paz in Electronic Gadgets, Home Automation, Home Gadgets

There are 3 cool ideas here, especially if you’re a gadget freak cum couch potato like me. From left to right there is:

• A remote control that doesn’t need a battery – very friendly to the environment.

• A voice-activated remote control, because I’m too lazy to pick the thing up and press the button.

• A universal remote control because I have six different remotes in the living room and they make the place look untidy.

I’m not sure about the universal remote control though; I had a really bad experience with one a few years ago…..

Help Prevent RSS with a Vibrating Mouse

May 24th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets

Hoverstop vibrating mouse

Us techies may not get many sport injuries but one thing we can suffer from if not careful is RSS (that’s Repetitive Strain Syndrome rather than Really Rich Syndication).

I’m not an expert on repetitive strain syndrome but in layman’s terms it’s caused by repeating the same movements over and over again (check out Wikipedia for a more in depth description) and holding onto a mouse for long periods of time can’t help, which is where this gadget mouse comes in.

Cables for all Occasions

May 24th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets

Cables and more cables

Just because your latest laptop comes fully equipped with wifi, blue tooth and infra-red, it does not mean wires are a thing of the past (and I doubt they ever will be). Connecting different devices together can be just as tricky with wires (different connectors) as it wirelessly (driver headaches spring to mind). This case of gadget connectors could make plugs and sockets that don’t fit a thing of the past.

Yes or No PillowYesterdays musical cushions and pillows could be listened to, whilst todays pillow post spells it out without making a sound. Comes in a his and hers set though some how I think one of these pillows will always be saying yes.

May 24th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets, Spy Stuff

Biometric Protected PCSometime you need access to a PC when it just isn’t practical lugging a laptop around. That’s when a cyber cafe or public PC can really help.
