Nuvo

December 7th, 2005 by Anita in Wacky Gadgets

nuvo

Nuvo is the very first humanoid robot that was designed especially for home use. He walks, talks, listens and reacts. When he was first introduced, he became very popular throughout Japan and after a few English lessons; he is now available all over the world.

He may look more like a modern sculpture than a robot, but he is in fact a very high-tech creation. He has 4 sensors, 15 joints, a dual microphone, speaker, wireless LAN and many more unique features that give Nuvo the ability to interact with his surroundings and life.

He is so much more than just a conversation piece. He does understand and respond to various verbal commands, remote control and can even be controlled via any web browser.

Mind Bog-ling Bog Seat

December 6th, 2005 by Al in Home Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Swash Toilet
Do you have a man in your life who you just can’t think of anything to buy for them? Well, have we got news for you! The Swash contoured, heated toilet seat. Not only does it contour to the user’s rear end, it also keeps it lovely and warm whilst carrying out the usual ablutions.

Furthermore, you don’t even have to reach over for the loo roll as this system also washes the old derriere with a gentle (or rather more vigorous if preferred) jet of water – you then just sit back and wait for the warm air jets to dry you off. Particularly useful when you discover that the bog roll’s all gone as well!

Hybrid Assistive Limb

December 5th, 2005 by Marc in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Science fiction meets science fact yet again in this robotics project from the University of Tsukuba. The Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL for short) is a very cool looking application of robotic technology. It reminds me of the cargo loaders in “Alien”, or perhaps it’s more “Robocop”. It’s a metal exo-skeleton that straps to a person’s limbs and magnifies the effect of their inputs.

I think they need some better marketing though. The name HAL is synonymous in hollywood with computer malfunctions and to top it off it looks like they’ve started a company called - wait for it - Cyberdyne - to market the product commercially.

Hmmmm…. Now might be a good time to run for the hills!

Virtual Air Guitar

December 5th, 2005 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Air Guitar
If you thought grown men looked pretty stupid when seen playing air guitar you ain’t seen nothing yet.

A bunch of students at the Helsinki University of Technology must of felt sorry for air guitarists with their lack of sound so have invented the first virtual air guitar.

The way the air guitar works is the guitarist (if you can call him (or her) that) dons a pair of highly fashionable orange gloves and then strums the air as if they are the next Ry Cooder or Slash. Normally when you’re doing this activity you probably wouldn’t want to be filmed, but that isn’t an option for the virtual air guitarist.

November 27th, 2005 by Anita in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

moneysoap
Do you enjoy giving unique and fun gifts at Christmas time or for birthday’s? If you really enjoy a good laugh and a surprised face on the recipient’s face then you must get some of these money soaps.

Everyone will be ready to wash their wash when they learn there is money to be found in the center of the money soap. Even children will love washing their hands to find out the surprise inside.

Each bar of soap is guaranteed to contain a $1, $5, $10, $20, or a $50 dollar bill. You will not have any idea of what the bill is until you wash your hands enough to wear down the soap. Then the money will be revealed.

USB Beer Cooler

November 26th, 2005 by Al in PC Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

USB Beer Cooler
You know what it’s like your coding (well browsing or gaming) away and your trusty side kick the can of beer become lukewarm with neglect. Well not any more thanks to the USB Beverage Chiller!

We reported a while ago on the USB Mug warmer which may be useful in the office (debatable) but it would certainly be no use for many a late night gadget head whose drink of choice can be found in a can. Fortunately for us the company Cool IT Systems have spotted the gap in the market and released the first USB Beverage Chiller.

Though still at the concept stage it is due to be released in the very near future (I’ve heard rumours of next month). The USB chiller gets all of it’s required power from the USB connection and boasts the ability to chill to 45˚F (that’s about 7˚C in real money :)). I reckon this could prove to be one of the most useful USB devices and beats the USB mug warmer, the USB Guitar and the USB Massage Ball hands down IMO.
