When you’re in the car and know you’re stuck driving for several hours, it’s hard to keep yourself entertained. This is normally why we turn on the radio if we don’t have music of our own, as it’s better to listen to something rather than nothing. Regardless if they’re your personal selection of tunes or the top 20 hits, you’re eventually going to know the lyrics well enough to sing along.

To make the car ride more exciting, you can turn your vehicle into a rolling karaoke bar with the Kuruma Utamaru. This is a little smartphone attachment that will work with iOS and Android karaoke apps, letting you sing with a mic in hand, and pipes out your voice with adjustable volume and echo through swivels on the side of the unit. While this is meant to be used in tandem with apps, you can also just sing along with YouTube videos or any other content that might be on your phone.

There is a one and two mic version of this, costing you $118 and $138 respectively. This uses a rechargeable battery, and can charge through the 2.9′ cigarette lighter cable it comes with. Unplugged, it will give you around 140 minutes of play time. This should only be used by passengers as the driver has enough distractions to run them off the road as is. However, having split-tone harmonies might be enough to make them drive poorly too.

The Vis-A-Vis Trunk lets the TSA know what they’re in for Wed, 10 Aug 2016 19:30:00 +0000 Vis-A-Vis

If you’re always getting on and off of planes, then you know how obnoxious the security procedures can be to get to your gate. Security always makes you feel like you’re enemy #1 with scanners, pat-downs, opening and emptying your luggage, and making you throw away something that is more than obviously not a threat. There are times where TSA agents are also just in a bad mood, and make it even more difficult to get through security than it was previously.

If you want to make sure that no one questions your motives, why not use a bag that makes it obvious you don’t have anything to hide? This Vis-A-Vis Trunk will make sure a quick scan will be all that’s needed, if that, to put you in the clear. This is a completely see-through polycarbonate hard-shelled suitcase that won’t give privacy to any items you’re traveling with, but will make sure they stay safe and secure.

This functions the same way as any other suitcase, the only big difference is that everyone will be able to see your socks and undies. It comes with a built-in TSA lock, clothes compression system to keep your items strapped in, and has wheels that roll in every direction. This is very expensive ringing in at around $572, but for all of those exhibitionists out there, this is a must-have. No one’s going to ask what’s inside the bag if they can already see it.

The Modobag will let you zip through the airport at 8 mph Thu, 28 Jul 2016 19:30:40 +0000 Modobag

If anything is going to make you want to pull your hair out, it’s traveling. Everything is a deadline, and if you’re flying, getting through security can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 or more hours. Getting from one gate to another on a layover can show you how good of a runner you are as some airports are huge and you end up getting onto the plane as a sweaty, hot mess.

It already feels gross to travel with so many people around you, so why not at least give yourself a little bit of a break with the Modobag? This is luggage that has been motorized so you can zip around the airport at 5 miles an hour. This TSA, FAA, UN, and IATA compliant bag will not only get you from A to B faster, but it can charge your devices through its two USB ports, has GPS tracking so there won’t be any more cases of lost luggage, and is made of materials that make sure it won’t crap out on you.

This luggage uses a belt-driven 150 Watt electric motor, lithium batteries, a CNC-machined steering column with telescoping aluminum handlebars, motorcycle grade foot pegs, has a dual-wheel braking system, and a Dupont ballistic nylon shell. You’ll get around 85% of your regular storage space any other carry on would have, as the extra %15 is what gets you around faster. Speaking of which, you’ll also be able to go 8 mph through the outdoor setting. The battery can be charged in less than 2 hours, and can carry up to 260 pounds, but keep in mind that it weighs 19 pounds on its own. This is no cheap buy at $995, but for those who believe time is money, it would certainly be worth the dough.

This Gardening Umbrella Hat makes you wonder what you’ve been doing with your life Tue, 05 Jul 2016 19:30:34 +0000 Umbrella Hat

There was a time when people wore nice pairs of shoes, gloves, waistcoats, petticoats, slips, and fanciful hats as their regular, daily wear. Over time we’ve not only given up on finery, but we’ve almost given up completely. Yoga pants with t-shirts and sweatpants with mustard-covered undershirts have become normal. Even formal occasions have people wearing flip flops and jeans anymore.

While part of us enjoys seeing people dressed nicely, the other part enjoys the freedom that comes with being allowed to go as casual as you want, anywhere you want. This Gardening Umbrella Hat is about as casual as you can get. It would be a useful tool to fishermen, gardeners, and those cooking outside on a rainy day, but it could also be used to walk outside in the rain and keep both hands firmly glued to your smartphone and polar pop without getting your device or your face wet.

Hopefully society doesn’t reach that tipping point, but for those who spend time outside and need to keep rain out of their eyes while working with both hands, this could be useful in a practical way. It has 7 vents and 7 metal rods which weigh 8.4 ounces. The outside is silver and the inside is black, meaning it could help deflect the sun on a hot day as well. The headband is adjustable, and it only costs $15.99, making it an easy purchase for outdoorsy types who care about their skin come rain or shine.

The IllumiBowl Toilet Night Light – don’t go into the light! Wed, 09 Dec 2015 19:30:10 +0000 IllumiBowl

When you have to go to the bathroom at night, your groggy self has a hard time not running into everything on the way there. It’s not as though anything has moved since you went to bed, but the navigation systems are off, and you’re flying half-asleep. If you need a guiding light to make it to your destination and actually hit your target, you’re going to need a landing signal.

The best way to grab your attention is through lights in the dark, and the IllumiBowl will do exactly that. This is a motion-activated toilet light that can be set to stay on a single color, or rotate through the 8 hue options it has. This is a little clip that will go under the seat, and projects light into the toilet bowl so you can see where you’re aiming to do your business.

This needs 3 AAA batteries to work, and is made of plastic that is very easy to clean. It uses LEDs, so you should hopefully not have to be replacing the batteries every other day. There are color options of red, orange, blue, green, white, purple, magenta, and cyan. This is only going to cost you $19.99, which is either expensive or cheap depending on how useful you find this to be. This would certainly make parties more interesting for the people who imbibe more than they should and need to hang out in the bathroom.

The Lumen uses your body heat to make light Thu, 29 Oct 2015 18:30:37 +0000 Lumen

Halloween is just around the corner, which means we’ve been spending the month watching scary movies. Sadly, a common theme is that people are always out of power for their phones, lights, and other electronic devices at just the worst possible time. If you want to make sure you’re never that person, then why don’t you stop relying on electricity? It’s a bit of a tall order, but there are options out there that will let you do it!

The Lumen is a very small yet amazing device that needs only your touch to work. This is the size of a chunky keychain, since it is one, and uses your body heat to produce an electric current. It uses a thermoelectric generator, and the metal body of the Lumen acts as a radiator. It’s only powering a single LED, which is about as much light as your phone can give off.

Dropping your flashlight and it turning off would be the next thing that could happen if you lived in a horror movie. Thankfully, the creators of lumen thought of that too as they put a glass vial of tritium gas and phosphor inside, which should produce light for over a decade so you can find it in the dark. This is going to cost you around $50 for the aluminum version with the tritium vial, but you can opt for a higher or lower price bracket depending on how fancy you want to go.

These drumsticks add a light show to the beat Mon, 21 Sep 2015 20:47:15 +0000 Light up Drumsticks

While it isn’t necessary to have drums in a band, it certainly makes a difference. It adds a layer of depth to the movement in a way that guitars, bass, and vocals can’t achieve on their own. The same can be said of having lights at a concert. While you don’t need to have strobes, colored lights moving to the beat, or laser lights turning a mere moment into a true experience to behold, they make the finished product that much more exciting.

If you don’t exactly have the budget for a light show, then why not hand your drummer these ION Firesticks? These are made out of solid plastic, but you should know that handing them to any passionate drummer means these are going to break at some point. They do come with batteries, and will light up every time you hit a drum or cymbal, so you shouldn’t worry about draining their power too quickly.

You can find these in blue, red, green, and purple, but be wary as they are pretty bright. One pair of these light-up drumsticks will cost you around $20 or more. Obviously these are aimed more at nighttime performances, lest you want the entire effect of these to be lost in the daylight. These likely wouldn’t fit in with the “aesthetic” of certain types of music, but to each their own. Maybe you’ll be the first black metal band with purple glowing drumsticks.

The Pocket Leaf Cup is silly, yet functional Mon, 07 Sep 2015 20:19:20 +0000 Pocket Leaf Cup

When you need a drink of water at basically any place that’s not your home, chances are it’s coming from a faucet. We can’t really drink clean water from lakes, ponds, and streams, and it’s not that we have time to run out to one anyhow. However, when drinking water in public areas, you don’t want to put your mouth anywhere near a fountain spout, and no one should be drinking directly from a faucet.

If you have a water bottle, but don’t want to seem cheeky filling it up from the massive bottled water fountain at work, getting a little at a time in a paper cup is normally the answer. Of course, we’re trying to save the planet, so we need to stop throwing so many of those things away, and be a tad more mindful about how much water we use. This little Pocket Leaf Cup can act as your personal cup, as you can literally keep it on you at all times, use it over and over again, and don’t have to worry about any germs that don’t belong to you.

Made of spring green silicone, this measures 3.5” long by 4.75″ wide, but doesn’t have a flat base, so you will have to hold on to it at all times. You will have to pinch the sides to hold it open to fill the cup or drink from it. It might also be a bit awkward to drink from and have some pocket lint in it from time to time, but it’s cute, will help you cut down on your paper cup usage, and will make you look very curious to all of your coworkers. Win-win!

Back to school with some Mushroom Kingdom style Tue, 01 Sep 2015 18:30:50 +0000 Mushroom Backpack

There are very few things to be excited about with going back to school. You get to buy brand new pens and notebooks which hold the promise of knowledge yet to come, but always seem to end up producing more doodles than anything. So far as clothing goes, it is nice to update our wardobe, but the real cherry on top is getting a new backpack.

It takes forever for them to wear out, and if you hardly carry more than a notebook or tablet in them anyway, it takes even longer. If you’re ready to up your student fashion game, then why not add a touch of geeky to the mix? This Mushroom Backpack looks like it was made by Toad in the Mushroom Kingdom, and is meant to be your adorable bag of holding. While this is pretty small and is likely targeted at kids, there are two adjustable straps that make it great for adults that don’t let age define them!

It has a classic red and white toadstool look, and two compartments. This is going to cost you around $23, and is obviously an amazing decision. Be prepared for the sheer number of people that will be asking you where you got this from, and also the painstaking job of keeping the beige and white on this looking as clean as the picture.

The Rurudo Fan Shade keeps you safe come rain or shine Fri, 28 Aug 2015 20:30:06 +0000 rurudo-fan-shade-parasol-cooling-gadget-1

When you think of an umbrella, you immediately recall needing one if it rains. Of course, in places where the temperature is regularly hot enough to cook an egg on the road, an umbrella can be used to keep the sun off of you so your skin doesn’t feel like it’s boiling. While most just rely on sunscreen to keep their skin safe, there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little extra protection from the sun.

This Rurudo Fan Shade is going to help you keep away from harmful UV rays while staying cool at the same time. This is a parasol, umbrella for rain, and a fan that will keep you dry, cool, and away from a sun tan should you be trying to steer clear from that sort of thing. The canopy is made of cotton and polyester with a water-repellant finish, which means you’ll be safe from a decent drizzle, but will likely have some water coming through if it’s an all-out downpour.

This is rather frilly and cute, but for it to work you’ll need to have 4 AA batteries handy to make sure the fan keeps going. You’ll be able to turn the fan on or off through a button on the handle. I can forsee someone accidentally hitting the switch on a rainy day and getting a cool blast of air that will make the chill seem far worse, but possibly more terrifying is the chance of getting your hair stuck in the fan. If it’s a risk you’re willing to take, then it’s going to cost you $110.
