Water Pogo - The Hydrofoil Water Scooter

March 27th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Hydrofoil Water ScooterThis has got to be the coolest man powered form of water transportation, the hydrofoil water scooter.

It’s a light weight contraption that you have to hop up and down on in order to propel forwards, think of it as a pogo stick for the water. It has a estimated top speed of 17 mph so you’ll easily be able to bounce past swimmers and rowing boats, just imagine the speed Tigger would be able to go.

This is going to be added to my one day “I’ll get one list”, available online (just shy of $500) from Hammacher and check out the video of it in action.

Environmentally Friendly Hummer

February 26th, 2006 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

Hummer Push Bike
Hummer’s are renowned as being tough all terrain vehicles and a tad on the pricey side (both to buy and run). Well you can now get an environmentally friendly Hummer, the Hummer Tactical Mountain Bike.

The bike was originally designed for the US military and is as tough as they come and boasts a paratrooper folding system, so after spending a weekend cycling up and down mountains you can still carry the bike on the train for the daily commute (you may want to wash it first).

As you’ve probably guessed the Hummer bike ain’t cheap, costing a hefty 695UKP available in the UK from Bauer Millett.

Segway Golf Caddy

February 25th, 2006 by Al in Sport, Vehicle Gadgets

Segway Golf Buggy thing
The Segway doesn’t seem to of taken off that much in the UK, I’ve never actually seen one in normal use which kind of reminds me of the Sinclair C5. The Segway GT however may change that.

The GT stands for Golf Transporter, and differs from a “normal” Segway by having an attached golf bag carrier and a place for your score card. It’s an interesting addition to what I think is a cool technology and after seeing some of the clothes golfers wear they shouldn’t have a problem being seen riding one of these in public. Could this be the end of the traditional pocket money golf caddy :). You can find more info and order online from the official Segway site.

Biometric Immobiliser

February 16th, 2006 by Al in Spy Stuff, Vehicle Gadgets

Biometric Imobiliser
Getting your car stolen can be a very expensive inconvenience, there are all sorts of security devices out there to protect you car from thieves, anything from crook locks to GPS tracking systems. Today I found a Biometric Immobiliser which is kind of cool.

The biometric immobiliser functions like a standard immobiliser (i.e. immobilises starter, ignition, fuel, etc.) but instead of their being a hidden switch or combination lock the driver has to have their finger scanned before the car can be started. To prevent hot wiring all the clever electronics are hidden in an armoured-steel enclosure. So if somebody pinches your keys you can rest assured your car will be in the space you left it (provided they didn’t chop your fingers off as well :))

LED License Plates

January 17th, 2006 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

LED License plate
The Programmable LED Car Plate Billboard lets you display your own messages beneath your cars license plate (or number plate to us UKers). It comes with a remote control so you can easily switch between messages, be it a ‘Hi Sexy’ for that blond behind or a simple “Get Lost” to that annoying tailgater.

The LEDs come in a choice of blue or red and for some unknown reason the blue one is $10 dearer, go figure, both are available from Gadget Universe.

The UM71 Motorised Skateboard

January 10th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

Motorised Skateboards
Fancy whizzing around the neighbourhood on a moving plank then you might want to look at the new UM71 motorised skateboard.

Steering is done as per a normal board via leaing and practice , but you control the speed and acceleration via a wire free controller that wouldn’t look out of place attached to a scaletrix set. The skateboard isn’t particularly fast with a top speed of just over 11 mph but when your balancing on board that is going seem more than fast enough. If you were lucky enough to get one of these for Christmas please let us know how many bones you’ve broken so far.

Bumper Dumper

December 15th, 2005 by Anita in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

bumperdumper
Okay, I found this cool gadget on a vacation website, but thought it would be appropriate for the holiday season as well. If you are doing any type of traveling to visit relatives this season and you have children you will more than likely hear “I gotta go”. This can happen anytime and anyplace if you have kids in the car. They are notorious for waiting until you get in the car to let you know they need to go to the bathroom. The Bumper Dumper is your safety net!

Now, when you hear those words all you have to do is pull over, preferably in a inconspicuous place where there are not any cars zooming by and just out and use the Bumper Dumper.

You do not have to worry about finding a bush, a tree or anything else to hide behind and worry about all those creepy crawling insects. Girls especially do not enjoy to the bathroom outdoors. This will help you from stopping a million times unless you cannot find a quiet out of the way place.

Dynaudio car audio systems

November 15th, 2005 by Marc in Audio/Video Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

Yes I’m still writing up bits I saw at the Stuff/What Hifi show and this deserves a paragraph.

You may be familiar with Dynaudio from their HiFi speaker background. They’ve recently teamed up with a number of car manufacturers to offer premium stereo upgrades on new models.

They were at the show demonstrating what they’ve managed to do with the new VW Passat and it was very impressive indeed. If you get the chance to sit in their demonstrator at any shows you visit, do so! (And if you’re in the market for a new passat, do yourself a favour and spend the extra money on the upgrade)
