Roadbox your Car’s Blackbox

February 3rd, 2007 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

Roadbox

This is an interesting bit of technology borrowed from the aviation industry, Roadbox the blackbox for your car.

The Roadbox works by recording diagnostics from your car (speed, acceleration, etc.) along with a wide angle video feed. If an accident occurs you should have enough data recorded to analysis what caused it. In normal operation (no shunts) the storage space will be reused over and over again and only if an accident happens will it need to be analysed.

The RoadBox driving recorder is available from PLK, found via Love Gadgets, Gadget Reporter and Get USB.

Peugeot, any way you pronounce it, you’ll be close!

January 31st, 2007 by Fred in Conceptual Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

Yes, Peugeot’s yearly design contest for aspiring transportation designers is upon us.Puegeot Flux Mihai Panaitescu, Italie

The top thirty are there for us to revel in, in all their glory. Here are the top 10, and here are the 20 behind them.

This year’s well caffeinated young designers will have spent this semester (and possibly longer) sketching their brains out to Peugeot’s theme of PLEASE Innovate, with the word PLEASE forming a clever acronym of: Pleasurable (to drive), Lively, Efficient, Accessible, Simple, and Ecological.

Apparently this meant to the students, crazy shapes that have nothing to do with going fast, and inserting imagined eecological nuace. Arrgh!

Inflatable Kayak

January 28th, 2007 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

twist_21.jpg

It might not look as cool as the transparent kayak but the inflatable canoe is equally cool in a different kind of way, when deflated it fits into a shoe box size space which means you can carry it around in your back pack until needed.

Further info on Gumotex or in the Sunday Times newspaper where I first read about it.

Own Your Own Yellow Submarine

January 28th, 2007 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

Worx U-Boat

U-Boat Worx have released the world’s first consumer submarine, the C-Quester submersible.

The C-Quester is capable of diving to a depth of 50 meters and as it uses a one-atmosphere system the pressure remains constant so there are no decompression problems. In order to operate a C-Quester you will need an Underwater Pilot License, which can be obtained by completing a 4 day training course with U-Boat Worx.

You can get both a one and two man version C-Quester and with prices starting at £65,000 (~$125,000) a bit of saving may be in order. More info over on the U-Boat Worx site.,

Get those wheels off the ground!!!

January 27th, 2007 by Fred in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

So the folks over at Jalopnik, who by the way are awesome, and if you have ANY love of cars at all you shouldJackhole check them out (after coming here to Coolest-gadgets.com of course!)

They have a wonderful piece about how to jack up your car (in the good way, not the steal all the parts from someone’s car way).

I felt compelled to include this, as we have many a reader who can likely rebuild a linux system with one hand behind their head (it’s harder than behind your back ok). Yet, they likely had trouble identifying anything under the bonnet of their car, (see there, I used bonnet, not hood, do I get any English points?)

The nice thing is, well they go through the whole process for you. Which, if you’re a newbie at it, can help a bundle.

Furthermore, they tell you what you need to get, and thereby our gadget goodness comes into play. I could tell you what the best budget plan to do this is,,,but this is Coolest-gadgets, and quite frankly, this is how we roll.

With the SWEETEST setups. (follow the jump baby!!) (oh yeah, catch live timing for the Rolex 24 here (you have 22 hours left (starting now)!) Read the rest of this entry »

Levitating Hover Scooter

January 25th, 2007 by Tiago in Vehicle Gadgets

Levitating Hover Scooter

After talking about a kid’s scooter yesterday, I decided to stick to the same topic today but at the same time add a little more power, and by that I mean talking about a Levitating Hover Scooter. We already mentioned a normal hover like 1 year ago, and even gave a link to the Hoover + Scooter product, but no information was provided at that time.

  • First of all: this is a very expensive transportation gadget that costs over $15,000 (more exactly $17,000) and for normal mortals like most of us, it is only a dream to own one. This personal hover was praised by the NYTimes as being a “miniature flying saucer with handlebars“ so that must mean it is really good.
  • The most important thing: speed! Sadly, it seems like the “scoohoover” has a maximum speed of 15mph, to be honest I expected more.

Classic Child’s Vespa

January 24th, 2007 by Tiago in Childrens Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

Classic Child’s Vespa

Offering a little motor bike to your 5 year old child might not be the best idea, but considering that this one can only go at 5mph that shouldn’t be a problem in terms of security and damage that it might cause for your loved one, or can it?

Inside the Classic Vespa there are 2 motors that will make the child using it feel like the great Ayrton Senna of the bikes, if the child in case doesn’t go to MacDonalds often he/she will probably weight less than 85lbs which is the limit of usage. As I previously mentioned, the speed limit on this Vespa is only 5mph and this can be achieved with the help of a 12V battery and the 2 electric motors of course. To make it look like a real bike there are some cool details, like sounds, lights and two rear-view models.

Scuba-Doo - The Underwater Moped

January 19th, 2007 by Al in Vehicle Gadgets

Underwater MopedThis has got to be the laziest way to SCUBA dive, the Scuba-Doo (where are you!). It looks like a cross between a moped and yellow submarine and promises to give people the thrills of SCUBA diving without the inconvenience of wearing a mask and having to swim.

It actually looks like a pretty neat idea for people that aren’t able to dive normally or just want to enjoy the experience without the work. Advantages are quoted as:

  • No mask
  • No mouth piece
  • No heavy weights and tanks
  • No special clothes or equipment
  • Shorter instructional time
  • You do not need to be a strong swimmer as the Scuba-Doo is self propelled
  • Glasses and contact lens can be worn as your head and shoulders are not in the water
  • Visibility is 180 degrees through a clear perspex dome giving a clear panoramic view
  • As the diver is breathing in an enclosed dome which is constantly being replenished with fresh air from the air tank, they tend to relax quickly and enjoy the experience more

You can get additional info on the Scubadoo site (cracking name), thanks to Neatorama and wugsy (not so cracking name :))
