Anakin, your boat is ready, it’s the Front Runner

February 28th, 2007 by Fred in Tech News, Vehicle Gadgets

front runner from core77

Is it a pod racer?

No, that’ s just ridiculous (but it does kind of look like one).

This new boat from designer Joey Ruiter has twin sponsons that are separated from the main hull. More importantly, they both house 215 horsepower jet drive motors. This means, yes, 430 horsepower of pod racing water skimming insanity!

But wait, there’s new based in reality too! It’s designed to run in extremely shallow water (think around 2 feet, at the lowest, when it’s up on plane probably about a foot, but that doesn’t really count when coming in to beach it at the local lake).

The other cool bits are the it’s not a glued aluminum solution (likely aluminum welds). The big thing about that is, when you’re done with it, you can recycle the whole thing like a drink can!

Robot drivers?

February 25th, 2007 by Dan in Robot Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

stanley.jpgWhat if robots could substitute humans when driving cars by 2030? That is what many scientists believe, and the advancements on this field will be showed this November on the challenged created by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Probably most of you remember when a Volkswagen Tuareg named Stanley won the challenge late in 2005. The driverless car , created by a Stanford team, traveled 212km across the Nevada Desert and won the prize of $2 million. The funny thing is that out of 23 participant cars only 4 managed to finish the course. Hopefully the challenge will show improved results this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Hey let’s all go to Holland and ride bikes. Coasting,, a manufactured fad

February 22nd, 2007 by Fred in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport, Vehicle Gadgets

Shimano CoastingSo the folks at Shimano that make every bike component you own (unless you ride Campy, Sram, or other gear) want to make friends with all the people that never ride bikes.

Plus they want them to buy a new bike too, (With their partners Giant, Trek, and Raleigh).

They’re going for the slow roller set, and going after it with some gusto with their new Coasting program.

The bikes look fun and enjoyable for the beach-going or city set. They’re clearly made for low grade (read flat places) that are easily pedaled.

The design look is fun and relaxed. These are not featherweight rocket sleds (though their transmissions and higher grade materials will make for a smooth efficient ride). These are developed for meandering down a country lane to your friends house. Maybe halfway there you hop off your bike and pick up an espresso.

After the jump take a look at how distinctly different each one of these new bikes look. It’s creepy how different they all,,,,, oh, wait,,, they’re like identicalish.

An additional 50 to 600 horsepower,, Diesel has Nitrous Zex

February 21st, 2007 by Fred in Vehicle Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

So, umm, you can increase the horsepower by 50 to shudder,, 600 by installing this diesel nitrous system from Zex.Zex diesel Nitrous

I can only imagine their wonderful slogans,

“Wouldn’t you like some Zex?”

“Can I insert my car into your garage with my Zex

I bet you can even have some that are really racy!

This system is primarily for drag racing systems, however, if you’re completely mad and have decided that your daily diesel rig needs to go,, oh,, around 50 to 600 horsepower faster (what a power band!) Then I think this is just what the doctor ordered.

Now your bike can show off like a peacock and you won’t look like a skunk

February 20th, 2007 by Fred in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport, Vehicle Gadgets

inflatable fenderstopeak logoInflatable fenders, finally!!

Thank you Topeak!!!!

Yes, now you can roll with a fender on your bike the whole time, and when it gets wet and slick, just pump up the fender and away you go.

Sure, you think bikes aren’t that impressive, well,, you’re wrong. The problem is when you’re stuck out in the rain riding your bike, you get a skunk style trail from the bottom of your butt up your back to your helmet. Outside of that (and the incessant downpour) the riding is the same, (ok there’s reduced grip and you’ll likely be soaked, but one thing at a time ok.

Customize your car’s. . . horn?

February 14th, 2007 by Mike in Vehicle Gadgets

Horntones
This day was pretty much inevitable and I think we all realized that. No, there’s nothing wrong with the world just yet and the internet is here to stay, but it pains me to tell you that you can now get personalized tones for your horn. They came up with the clever name of Horntones. Very unique, eh? (Sorry for the poor image quality)
