Drive-thru Funerals? You want flowers with that?

by Julie

You have so many things you need to do in a day and only so many hours to do them in. Many businesses know this, and try their best to keep you moving, we have fast food, drive thru dry cleaners, drive-up bank tellers, drive in movies and curbside grocery delivery and now… wait for it… the drive thru funeral parlor.

The Robert L. Adams Mortuary in Compton, California is allowing families to put their beloved’s caskets in a bulletproof glass display window that is visible to cars passing through the mortuaries drive-through lane. (bulletproof? really? why?) Watch the video after the jump. Continue reading » Drive-thru Funerals? You want flowers with that?

AutoGyro Cavalon Gyrocopter

by Mark R

It has been a while since we reported on a gyrocopter with The Amazing Flying Dutch Car. This particular gyrocopter is AutoGyro’s Cavalon, and it is planned to be unveiled at Aero Friedrichshafen, which I can only assume is some airshow of some type.

The Cavalon is a two-seater chopper that my Source states has “plenty of space for a passenger and a pilot, with plenty of room to move around if needed”. I strongly doubt that by the looks of it, as it looks like my mini-van has more room.

Electric Bicycle Built For Two

by Edwin

Electric bicycles aren’t anything new, but this one that you see here definitely is – we’re talking about an electric bicycle that has been specially built to seat not one, but two people. This is touted to be the only one of its kind to date, where it can assist both riders up to 20 mph in relaxed, relative comfort. Seems perfect if you have plenty of hills around your area, don’t you think so?

A 500-watt electric motor will drive the rear wheel in order to assist riders up hills or across broad flats for easy cruising. Using a twist of the right handlebar will help you control the motor’s variable speed, while your thumb’s push will change the six gears. If you want to speed up, there’s this old fashioned method of pedaling so that you can amble along faster than 20 mph.

When running on a full charge, its detachable 48-volt lithium battery can provide enough juice for up to 25 miles – just make sure the combined weight of both you and your partner do not surpass 500 lbs. The asking price? A rather steep $3,400.

Roadside Assistance that Finds You, even if You Don’t Know Where You Are

by Julie

Mobile location technology is playing a new role in the evolution of emergency roadside assistance, thanks to an innovative location-based solution developed by AT&T and Road America, the well known roadside assistance provider. In partnership with researchers at AT&T, Road America has developed a GPS technology solution for pinpointing breakdown locations in seconds, even if you have no idea where you are.

Previously, drivers needed to have GPS units installed in their cars to be located in the event of an accident or roadside breakdown, but a new solution offered by Road America is bringing this important safety feature to any basic cell, landline or smartphone on any network. Sure, we had telematics device’s like Onstar, but it was only available on GM vehicles… so it left other stranded travelers relying on “well, there’s a big brick building, it looks like a school, with a truck parked in front… I’m around the corner from that.” Not exactly the pinpoint accuracy I’m looking for on a stormy night with a broken car. Agility Saietta R Bike

by Edwin

Electric vehicles seem to be all the rage these days, so you might be interested to ride into the sunset with the Agility Saietta R Bike – a cool looking two-wheeler that looks as though it comes from the future. Of course, the £13,570 price tag is not going to make it appealing to everybody at first glance, but hear me out as I list down what’s so great about this.

First of all, you need not worry about traffic jams since you can always zip yourself around town on this, squeezing between cars to get from point A to point B within the fastest time possible. Apart from that, you don’t have to cram yourself into public transport like you’re part of a sardine tin, and best of all is, the spare seat behind is perfect for you to pick up chicks (if you’re single, of course) as it looks totally hot.

With the Saietta R’s electric motor in action, all the bulk associated with how a standard bike should look like has been removed, and hence the shape and model have evolved to resemble something from the future. This lightweight and environmentally-friendly dream ride might not glow like something out of Tron, but it will still turn heads around and eyes green as you cruise down the street on this.

T3 Motion three-wheeled vehicle, the R3

by Mark R

What you see here is the R3 from T3 Motion, and it is a three-wheeled vehicle that is not a car, but a motorcycle. At least, that is its classification.

The R3 is a full electric vehicle that has a range of 80 to 100 miles after a full charge, and a top speed of 70 miles per hour. You can see a video of it after the jump, but there isn’t any sound.

It has another feature that makes it very interesting, which it has a place to mount a Galaxy Tab. In all honesty, I believe that most models of cars in this decade should have something like this. Most newer cars are already iPad compatible, and if there is a place to put a tablet PC, then the tablet can be charged as well as running apps that will help you as you drive, like a GPS.

The Flying Nano could be the cheapest way to fly

by Mark R

This is the FlyNano, a boat that is also a plane designed by Aki Suokas.

The FlyNano is made of pure carbon fiber, and it is one of the lightest single-person aircrafts ever made at 154 pounds. It is capable of flying through the air for 43 miles on a gas-powered engine of 24bhp and 35bhp, and 25 miles on the electric model. The top speed is about 87 miles per hour, and it is probably one of the smallest aircrafts at 15.7 feet and a height of 4.9 feet.

It definitely looks quite fun for some water sports, like a Jet-ski that can fly. By the way, I have heard that no pilot’s license is required to fly these things.

This construction toy builds human-sized vehicles

by Mark R

Two days ago, I heard the name Wouter Scheublin for the first time. This guy might be the greatest inventor of our time. Not only has he created the Eight-legged Wooden Walking Table, but this construction toy concept.

You know how Lego toys allow you to build awesome vehicles that only minifigures can drive, and they usually have to be pushed, by you? What if you were able to create pedal-powered creations that you can actually ride?

This is what Mr. Scheublin is proposing, and it is downright cool. You will note that it comes with some interesting parts that look like the Lego Technic kits designed for older kids.

Something tells me that these concept construction toys are designed with older kids in mind. Yes, there will be some nuts, bolts, chains, and gears involved, so using a wrench is a definite pre-requisite.
